Etymology

edit

Possibly borrowed from Vulgar Latin vittula, diminutive of Latin vitta (band, headband),[1] although very uncertain since the word is not attested anywhere in old manuscripts or in the Romance languages. Çabej considers it an inherited word; compare Proto-Balto-Slavic *wṓˀka (eyelid).[2]

Noun

edit

vetull f (plural vetulla, definite vetulla, definite plural vetullat)

  1. eyebrow
  2. overhang
  3. arched part of something
