editBlend of tri- + dialogue, reinterpreted as di- (“two”) + -alogue, though actually from Ancient Greek διάλογος (diálogos, “conversation, discourse”), from διαλέγομαι (dialégomai, “to converse”), from δια- (dia-, “through”) + λέγω (légō, “to speak”).
Note that official documents of the European Union use the spelling trilogue (perhaps influenced by the French spelling).
