editFrom Ottoman Turkish گورنمك (görünmek, “to show one's self, to appear, to come in sight”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish گورمك (görmek, “to perceive by sight, to see”), from Proto-Turkic *kör- (“to see”),[2] morphologically gör- + -ün + -tü.
