editFirst attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 맛 (Yale: mas). From Old Korean 味次 (*MAc). Possibly cognate with Old Chinese 味 (OC *mɯds, “taste”).
