Possibly a variant of (OC *taːn) (Schuessler, 2007). Both and may theoretically be borrowed from a foreign word *klan. He further suggests a Kam-Tai origin, comparing it to Proto-Kam-Sui *h-lanꟲ (red), but see (OC *taːn) for more.
