Usage notes

edit
  • Represents the back vowel phonemes /u/ and /ʊ/. Unless a small ء (hamza) was placed in the beginning of the word. In Kazakh, the hamza marks that all vowels in the following word are fronted. If ۇ is the first letter and is representing a front vowel, it is combined with the hamza and the varient ٷ is used.

Usage notes

edit
  • In UEY (Uyghur Ereb Yëziqi), if a word begin with a vowel, there will always a hamza before the vowel letter. e.g. ئېغىز (ëghiz). And when there is no consonant between two vowels, a hamza is always placed between them. e.g. سائەت (sa'et).
