Do we have any good sources for current and past Canadian swimming records, British Columbia specifically possibly high school age, supposedly still held in 2007. We've got a high attention, high controversy, [[Rachel Marsden|BLP article]] where whether or not there were such records is being [[Talk:Rachel Marsden#Swimming records|questioned]]. If true, it should probably remain in the article. So we need sources. Any help will be appreciated. [[User:GRBerry|GRBerry]] 20:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
:Hmm [http://www.swiminfo.com Swiminfo] is the place to look, if anything at all exists. They are by far teh most detailed swimming database on earth and they do have results of US high school comps. Maybe not Canada though. '''[[User:Blnguyen|<
::I failed to find Canada records on that site, and their search feature requires premium access. Oh well. How significant is the "British Columbia Summer Swimming Association" [http://www.bcssa.bc.ca/ http://www.bcssa.bc.ca/]? We've managed to source some still held records within that association. And what would be the national association/league/competition for Canada? [[User:GRBerry|GRBerry]] 04:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
:[http://bcssa.mysalmonarm.com/index.php?page=top60/male.html I looked in these numbers]. I guess if those times were in long course pools, then they would be ok, since the fastest guy is 50.2s over 100m free. If it was short course, the times would be pretty bad. Canada does have open championships like most countries, for selecting olympics and World champsionships teams. '''[[User:Blnguyen|<

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at [[:Category:C-Class_articles]]. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. [[Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Index|The bot]] is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please [[Wikipedia_talk:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment#WikiProject_responses|leave a message]] with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Coordinators' working group|WikiProject coordinators' working group]], an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — <small>Delievered by [[User:ShepBot|<

:I like your idea of work groups for different sports, and I will help out as much as I can. However, I think a biography work group for swimmers is covered by the sports and games work group of [[WP:BIO]], although with the amount of articles they need to improve it may be better doin it ourselves, instead of them being neglected in favour of Football biographies. Righty-o! The bot has completed it's project banner tagging task, and we now have approx 7,500 pages under the auspices of this project (of which about 5900 articles, 1200 categories, 500 templates). Time now to get assessing the [[:Category:Unassessed swimming articles|unassessed articles]], and keeping on top of new article creations (for example via [[User:AlexNewArtBot/SwimmingSearchResult]]). There are currently 1200 unassessed articles, and it would be great to get this down to a more manageable size! The bot which was supposed to add "water-polo=yes" to the banners on the appropriate talk pages missed a fair number of articles, so keep an eye out for these too! Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the [[User:WP_1.0_bot|WP 1.0 Bot]]! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? == Categories for female swimmers ==
I wanted to know if anybody is working on categorising female swimmers i.e. female backstroke swimmers, female breaststroke swimmers, female freestyle swimmers and female medley swimmers, into individual country categories e.g. Australian backstroke swimmers because I've noticed that there are only two categories which are American and Canadian. If there is someone who is doing this then I am more than happy to help and vice versa as there are a lot of swimmers under those categories.
Also, I was thinking of categorising the Paralympic swimmers too e.g. Paralympic backstroke swimmers, Paralympic breaststroke swimmers, Paralympic freestyle swimmers and Paralympic medley swimmers. I don't want to go into too much detail for classifying them into their sport categories as it could be quite complicating especially if the swimmer competes in two different classes or has changed sport classes.

Your input, one way or the other, on several pending proposals to alter NSPORTS would be welcomed. These proposals are as follows:
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 1|Subproposal 1]]: Requires "all athlete biographies ''must'' demonstrate GNG when notability is challenged at AfD" and that "SIGCOV in multiple secondary, independent reliable sources would have to be produced during the course of an AfD". Also potential limitations/exceptions.
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 3|Subproposal 3]]: "Remove all simple or mere 'participation' criteria in NSPORT, outside of ones related to Olympics and equivalent events."
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 4|Subproposal 4]]: "Modify all provisions of NSPORTS that provide that participation in 'one' game/match such that the minimum participation level is increased to 'three' games/matches. This raises the threshold for the presumption of notability to kick in."
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 5|Subproposal 5]]: "Implement a requirement that all sports biographies and sports season/team articles must, from inception, include at least one example of actual WP:SIGCOV from a reliable, independent source. Mere database entries would be insufficient for creation of a new biography article."
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 5|Subproposal 6]]: "Conditional on Subproposal 6 passing, should a prod-variant be created, applicable to the articles covered by Subproposal 5, that would require the addition of one reference containing significant coverage to challenge the notice."
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 8|Subproposal 8]]: "Rewrite the introduction to clearly state that GNG is the applicable guideline, and articles may not be created or kept unless they meet GNG." Further: "Replace all instances of 'presumed to be notable' with 'significant coverage is likely to exist.'
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 9|Subproposal 9]]: Strike, as allegedly confusing and/or at odds with other parts of NSPORTS, the following sentence from the lead: "The article should provide reliable sources showing that the subject meets the general notability guideline or the sport specific criteria set forth below."
:* [[Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Sports notability#Subproposal 10|Subproposal 10]]: "Require each project that has inclusion criteria based on participation in a league ... within the next 30 days to justify the inclusion of each league. Such justification must include actual 'random' (truly random) sampling showing that 90%-plus of the players in each league receive sufficient SIGCOV to pass GNG. At the end of 30 days, any league as to which the data has not been provided must be stricken from NSPORTS." [[User:Cbl62|Cbl62]] ([[User talk:Cbl62|talk]]) 09:43, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

== User script to detect unreliable sources ==
{{Main|User:Headbomb/unreliable}}
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to [[WP:URS|unreliable sources]] and [[predatory journal]]s. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the [[Wikipedia:User scripts/Most imported scripts|39th most imported script on Wikipedia]]. The idea is that it takes something like
*John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14. (<code><nowiki>John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.</nowiki></code>)
and turns it into something like
* John Smith "{{highlight|[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]|pink}}" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{tl|cite web}}, {{tl|cite journal}} and {{tl|doi}}.
The script is mostly based on [[WP:RSPSOURCES]], [[WP:NPPSG]] and [[WP:CITEWATCH]] and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is '''not a script to be mindlessly used''', and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at [[User:Headbomb/unreliable]]. Questions, comments and requests can be made at [[User talk:Headbomb/unreliable]].

== Record help ==
I am trying to determine when [[Emma Reaney]]'s ACC record 200y IM time (1:54.92) was beaten. I was hoping someone had a subscription to the MeetMobile app or some other way to check some times for me. Reaney set the ACC record in the 2014 ACC championship. By December 2, 2016 UVA's Kaitlyn Jones had posted a 1:54.05. I am wondering when and by whom Reaney's record was broken. I would like to see (2015 & 2016) ACC Championship meet results which would show the ACC record at the time of the meet. I know her ACC Championships record stood until 2017 when [[Alexia Zevnik]] broke it, but the conference record fell earier.--[[User:TonyTheTiger|TonyTheTiger]] <small>([[User talk:TonyTheTiger|T]] / [[Special:Contributions/TonyTheTiger|C]] / [[WP:FOUR]] / [[WP:CHICAGO]] / [[WP:WAWARD]])</small> 13:16, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi! Don't you think we should have 1 wikitable for semis just like for heats. [[Swimming at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships – Men's 50 metre butterfly| a random article]]. The sources used also have only 1 table, which makes it more clear who advanced with time. It would probably also avoid such mistakes as currently in [[Singapore at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships|Singapore]] article:

== Medals in the infobox ==
After seeing [[Olivia Smoliga]]'s infobox with NCAA championships, I added that content to [[Emma Reaney]]'s infobox. I have also been working on [[Kelly Hecking]]'s article. I am wondering if I could put YMCA Nationals (SC & LC) in the medals in the infobox. Hecking has 3 career 1sts (LC), 4 2nds (SC) and 2 3rds (SC). I posted at [[Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Sports#Medals_sections_of_infoboxes]], but no response.--[[User:TonyTheTiger|TonyTheTiger]] <small>([[User talk:TonyTheTiger|T]] / [[Special:Contributions/TonyTheTiger|C]] / [[WP:FOUR]] / [[WP:CHICAGO]] / [[WP:WAWARD]])</small> 13:24, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

== American Public High School 100 meter (sc) backstroke record owned by New Jersey? ==
While fleshing out the modestly/marginally notable [[Kelly Hecking]], I decided I might as well create an article for slightly less notable [[Tashy Bohm]], who by my estimation is a bit of a rival for her. In so doing, I came across a set of sourced facts which point me to an oddity. It seems like for the last 40 plus years New Jersey high schoolers have passed around the American Public High School 100 meter short course backstroke record. I don't usually follow swimming much outside of the Olympics. As I understand the sport there are basically four records for every length. There is short course/long course and meters/yards for every event. Short course is 25 meters or yards and long course is 50. Sources have presented facts that the 1980 American Public High School 100 meter (sc) backstroke record was held from 1980 to 1997 by New Jersian Lisa Iori, This was broken in 1997 by New Jersian Jennelle Ritchie at the beginning of 1997. Then New Jersian Hecking broke it unofficially before New Jersian Bohm broke it officially in February 1997. THen New Jersian Lauren English broke it again in 2004. My perception is that of the four combinations (LCm, LCy, SCm and SCy), it must be rare for puclic high schoolers to have official meets in SCm forums. New Jersey must be one of the few states that contests SCm. Otherwise, I need an explanation of why NJ owns this record. == Weights of swimmers in infobox ==
I am proposing that weight be eliminated for swimmers in their infobox. More and more swimmers, primarily women, are speaking about their battles with weight issues and mental health. As a result, many national organizations such as USA Swimming and Swimming Canada no long post weights for swimmers on their profiles. This extends to the United States and Canadian Olympic committees which also no longer post weights. Given that weights are really not that significant in swimming compared to combat sports like boxing or tae kwon do, I think it is time to remove these weight categories. We no longer have reliable weight information from the primary sources and a persons weight can fluctuate a lot. If a swimmer sees their weight on Wikipedia posted from a time that is no longer achievable for them, this can cause considerable mental anguish.
Since we no longer have great sources and the potential to cause mental health issues and eating disorders, it is probably time to remove these from profiles, particularly female swimmers. What do others think? :It seems that US and Canadian swimmers weights are becoming unsourced and can be removed. But there are over 200 countries in the world. Most sportsperson's infoboxes have the weight paramater, but it's never mandatory (all info in Wikipedia should be properly sourced anyway). No reason to remove the parameter from infobox, if it's public - we can publish it. This goes for all sports. [[WP:NOTCENSORED|Wikipedia is not censored]]. == Project-independent quality assessments ==
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at [[Wikipedia:Content assessment]], but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent [[WP:Village pump (proposals)/Archive_198#Project-independent_quality_assessments|Village pump proposal]] was approved and has been implemented to add a {{para|class}} parameter to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{tl|WPBannerMeta}} a new {{para|QUALITY_CRITERIA|custom}} parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
