The milecastle is situated on the [[Military Road (Northumberland)|Military Road]] just to the west of East Wallhouses. It measures {{convert|53|ft|8|in|m}} east to west and {{convert|59|ft|6|in|m}} north to south with side walls {{convert|7|ft|9|in|m}} thick.<ref name=mc18/> It was scheduled as an ancient monument on 14 July 1997.<ref name=mc18>{{cite web|title=Milecastle 18|url=http://www.pastscape.org/hob.aspx?hob_id=20446|work=Pastscape|publisher=English Heritage|access-date=17 February 2012|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120325002214/http://www.pastscape.org/hob.aspx?hob_id=20446|archive-date=25 March 2012}}</ref> There are no structural remains though part of the milecastle is visible as a {{convert|0.5|m|ft|adj=mid|-high}} platform next to the road, which covers much of the former milecastle.<ref name=mc18/>
