He was a technical assistant to River State Commissioner for Environment.[3] Marvin was appointed as a project coordinator for hydrocarbon pollution remediation project (HYPREP) by former minister of Environment and current deputy secretary General of United Nations, Amina Mohammed.[4]
[5]e is an oil remediation person and has been consultant at the United Nations Environment Program – UNEP, UK Environment Agency, Oil industry and Government in Nigeria[5].He is an alumnus of University of Oxford Said Business School.[5]
Background
Marvin Dekil born in October, 1968 is an environmentalist with expertise in impacted land remediation, assessment and restoration.[6] He hails from Ogoni, Rivers state, Nigeria .
He is a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state where he studied Microbiology. He holds a Masters degree in Environmental Pollution Control from the University of Leeds and a Ph.D in Environmental science from the University of Bradford,UK .[2]
Marvin Dekil is also a Lawyer and holds a LLB from the Nigerian Law School and an LLM in Environmental Law from the University of London.
Career
Earlier in his career, He worked as a Technical Assistant to Rivers State Commissioner for Environment where he was responsible for Development and Implementation of Rivers State Government (Ministry of Environment) joint projects with International Development Partners; United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Bank, Ecological Fund and other Technical Consultants. In 2012, he was a member of the Nigeria Delegation to United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20) Rio de Janeiro Brazil.[7]
In 2017, he was appointed by the Nigeria's former Minister of Environment and current Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed as project coordinator for the hydrocarbon pollution remediation project HYPREP.[4]
