Baishiya Karst Cave lies on the southern side of Dalijiashan Mountain,{{sfn|Chen|Welker|Shen|Bailey|2019}} at the foot of a white cliff.{{sfn|Hublin|2019}} The cave lies north of the Baishiya Temple.{{sfn|Chen|Welker|Shen|Bailey|2019}} The cave is currently a Buddhist sanctuary and a tourist attraction.{{sfn|Hublin|2019}} The cave is over {{convert|1|km|ft|0|abbr=on}} in length. Baishiya Karst Cave is located in the Ganjia Basin, at the mouth of the Jiangla River, a tributary of the Yangqu River.{{sfn|Chen|Welker|Shen|Bailey|2019}}
 
Archaeologists began studying the site in 2011.{{sfn|Chen|Welker|Shen|Bailey|2019}} The first [[Survey (archaeology)|archaeological survey]] at the site was performed in 2016, while the first [[Excavation (archaeology)|systematic excavation]] did not occur until 2018.{{sfn|Hublin|2019}} Several lithic artefacts and animal bones with cut marks were discovered at the entrance to the cave.{{sfn|Chen|Welker|Shen|Bailey|2019}}
