Winton Capital

edit

Hi Cmprince, a few weeks ago you templated a new article about the British investment management firm Winton Capital Management. Not too long after, someone from Winton asked me to see if I could improve it. So I've now prepared a much-expanded version (in my user space here) and posted a request on the Winton Talk page (that's here). For COI reasons I'm looking to see if I can get consensus for the new draft. Seeing has you had taken interest in it once, perhaps you're willing to take another look. Let me know what you think. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 22:08, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I just wanted to say, thanks very much for your excellent feedback on my Winton draft. Some very reasonable questions and suggestions in there, and it's prompted me to go back and see if we can make a few changes based on the answers. I'll probably have it all together by early next week, and I'll be sure to link your comments from the Winton discussion page when I move forward with it. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 20:14, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've now made a number of changes to the Winton draft, based on your review. You can see the difference between versions here, and explained in some detail on the draft's discussion page. With that done, I've moved it over, and the article is live at Winton Capital Management.
Now, at the risk of overindulging your generosity, the Winton draft is actually one of two that I've been preparing; the other is for the article about David Harding (mathematician) himself. The current Harding article is fairly similar to the former Winton article: it's basically a stub with an infobox, and the draft I have written is a more fully developed version of the same. You can find it here: User:WWB_Too/David_Harding (finance)
Fortunately, the Harding article is a little bit shorter and involves less discussion of complex financial topics. I've explained in a bit more detail on that article's Talk page. If you'd be willing to give a similar review to that article, I'd be happy to return the favor sometime. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 17:52, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, I've also reached out to the originator of the article (though he seems quite busy) and added a {{request edit}} template on my Harding note. But if you do get a chance to weigh in, that would be great. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 20:21, 20 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Put sqrt in {{math}}

edit

Explain [1] please. From my observations, rather contrary, CSS-made overlines behave more glitchy under {{math}} than in a bare text. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 20:31, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the pointer, I was not aware of the CSS implications with the math template. For me, {{sqrt|2}} renders with a large gap, whereas {{math|{{sqrt|2}}}} is closed. I'll self-revert since I'd rather not screw up anyone else's rendering. Cmprince (talk) 20:49, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, both render ok for me (OS X / Chrome) but quite differently from each other. The one without the math template uses a sans-serif 2 that matches the text format, and the square root sign is tight around it. The one with the math templates uses a slightly larger serif-font 2 with more space between it and the square root sign. Since there is another equation nearby that also uses serif-font 2's (in the exponents), I would prefer the version with the math template, so that we don't have two different kinds of 2's so close to each other. —David Eppstein (talk) 22:10, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

re:red color of eliminated WC teams

edit

Hi, and thanks for letting me know the concerns you have and others may have the same.

The reason I have heard is that group is already decided (green line removed) so there is no need for the red color. This is how it has been done in Champions League and Europa League group stage and some more competitions (all I have seen). Since there are such "confusion" I will see if I can find any consensus for this and start a discussion at the main 2014 World Cup article to see what people say. Perhaps we should clarify it with a note in the color key or perhaps even add the color. QED237 (talk) 22:21, 18 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

All I can find for now is that it has been discussed at WT:FOOTY but only with two editors saying it is okay to remove colors, but actually it was not done in last year Champions League so I will reinsert the red color as many seems to want them. If an other editor wants them removed we can open a discussion. Or maybe we should discuss when the red color should be removed (after group finish or after all groups finish).
