From Star Wars to Star Wars

edit

In the 1999 Documentary "From Star Wars to Star Wars: The Story of Industrial Light & Magic" they talked about Amblin and they showed clips from Amblin films, whether it be Who Framed Roger Rabbit, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Back to the Future, they even showed Splash and the first two The Terminator movies, because imdb.com doesn't list Amblin under production companies it can safe to conclude they were uncredited, and they even showed. In the first sentence when they talked about Amblin they talked about directors who directed these films and they mentioned Ron Howard (Splash's director) and James Cameron (the director of the first two Terminator films). They even showed interviews of those two talking about their Amblin films. Now if Amblin didn't produce the three films the documentary would say they did, do you think if Amblin didn't, the interviewees would have said they did, do you think if Amblin didn't, the documentary say they did, the interviewees say they did, there wouldn't be news articles to point out that they didn't. --AKR619 (talk) 08:46, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm guessing the reason why there were clips for Splash, Forrest Gump and the first two Terminator movies in that documentary is because ILM had some involvement with the special effects. Amblin still didn't produce those movies, nor did they produce Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Gabrielkat (talk) 11:30, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

In any event, making a conclusion about "uncredited" involvment based upon the inclusion of a brief scene in a documentary on a different topic is a leap of original research. Also, the TV ratings for the listed projects are off-topic. Jgm (talk) 11:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
For the record, and at the present time, the documentary is on YouTube in six parts (starting here). None of the claims about Twilight Zone, Terminator, Spalsh, etc. appear in the special. Footage from Terminator 2 appears underscoring a brief section on how "ILM had changed the face of cinema." There is a line about how "he opened ILM's doors to fellow filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Robert Zemeckis, and Ron Howard." That's it. The interviews with Cameron and Howard discuss what Lucas accomplished as a filmmaker, they never state that they made films for Amblin. Later, Howard talks about ILM on Willow and Cameron discusses ILM's work on Terminator 2. I couldn't find any clip from Splash or some of the others mentioned. -- Aleal (talk) 03:09, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Speaking of Ron Howard, AKR619, I have proof of Imagine's involvement in a film made before the 'Burbs. I have a link to the poster of Willow here (http://www.impawards.com/1988/willow_ver2_xlg.html). Below the "Directed by Ron Howard" credit, what do you see?--67.149.21.173 (talk) 03:15, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Year the company was founded

edit

Although many people believe Amblin Entertainment was founded in 1982 with E.T., I think otherwise. Continental Divide was the first film that mentioned the Amblin credit, and that was released in 1981. Look the film up on IMdB if you don't believe me, and if you still don't, rent the DVD. In the beginning of the credits, it clearly says An Amblin Production. I'm not delusional and I'm not making it up.

Flintstones

edit

How can you say Spielberg was not involved in the first Flintstones movie? If you read "The Making of The Flintstones", it was Spielberg who suggested John Goodman as Fred. There is also a picture of Spielberg on set. (Art1991 (talk) 17:09, 14 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

The Harvey Entertainment Company distributed Casper internationally?

edit

The 1995 live-action Casper film was distributed in North America by Universal Pictures and internationally by Universal Pictures, not The Harvey Entertainment Company (they only co-produced the film but DreamWorks Animation does not own the international rights to the film). 71.95.53.89 (talk) 18:34, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Poltergeist

edit

The 1982 MGM movie Poltergeist despite Spielberg producing does not credit Amblin. Instead it was credited Steven Spielberg. --73.184.6.244 (talk) 15:00, 5 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Allegations of Harassment and Sabotage - Amblin security and staff targeted and harassed an intern and would later contact multiple studios and companies advising individuals to blacklist an individual who later committed suicide. They were accused of stealing intellectual property in addition to exploiting and harassment.

Question

edit

Prior to Continental Divide, Steven Spielberg served as executive producer for I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Used Cars with no company name being credited here, the former is because of the significant presence of "Steven Spielberg presents", which is closely associated with the studio output in the 80s and for cartoons with WB. --2600:1700:4300:2C8F:B570:E32D:9077:C393 (talk) 13:53, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I believe before reverting, the founding date was accurate. Boushenheiser says it was founded in 1981, which might be a false claim. --2600:1700:4300:2C8F:B570:E32D:9077:C393 (talk) 14:27, 22 September 2020 (UTC) 2600:1700:4300:2C8F:B570:E32D:9077:C393 (talk) 14:27, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

It was clearly founded in 1970. There are newspapers on Los Angeles Times and Variety in the 70s that knew Amblin existed. 2600:1700:4300:2C8F:B570:E32D:9077:C393 (talk) 14:37, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

It is confirmed that Poltergeist was produced by Amblin Entertainment. Check the link: [1] for reference. 172.127.114.25 (talk) 15:02, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not necessarily. I think the Amblin website has information on any film that Spielberg had significant involvement in, like the four Indiana Jones films, which he only directed. Boushenheiser (talk) 15:13, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Pre-1984

edit

I have a theory concerning the site Variety Ultimate, when searching "Amblin" and set the span to 1968 (the year the short was released) to 1984 (the year Gremlins was released) and most of the works in magazines go by their old name of Amblin Productions, rather than Amblin Entertainment. Many of the pre-Gremlins films asides from Continental Divide Spielberg produced, like Universal's I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Columbia's Used Cars, MGM's Poltergeist and Warner's Twilight Zone: The Movie does not credit Amblin at all in the posters, trailers, marketing, or in the film credits, just listed Steven Spielberg. --2600:1700:4300:2C8F:B570:E32D:9077:C393 (talk) 21:33, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

According to IMDb bio on Steven Spielberg, it is claimed that he founded the Amblin Production Company in 1969, not 1981. Frank Marshall was hired in 1980. 2600:1700:4300:2C8F:F5F8:5234:6CD8:C89F (talk) 13:56, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
