An aerial view of the Andaman Islands

A stunning aerial view of the Andaman Islands. Uploaded by User:Nikkul --thunderboltz(TALK) 16:56, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Oppose. This image was taken with a strong blue filter or post-processed with a blue filter and, in addition, had the saturation level of its blue increased. The result is a fake blue. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 04:26, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Explanation: blue being a shorter wavelength than red gets attenuated faster in moisture (such as clouds or the humid haze that hangs over the water). So, it is unlikely that the far background (especially the farthest island) would appear that blue or bluish-green. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 09:45, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Interesting. Thank you for noting that.--thunderboltz(TALK) 15:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  • Support. The explanation is erroneous. The islands in the far background aren't sources of light, so the argument that is used to explain the colour of the setting or the rising sun doesn't apply here. As there is a great distance between the point of view and the horizon, there is a significant amount of atmosphere present between the camera and the horizon, and Rayleigh Scattering gives everything a bluish tinge. Haven't you noticed how distant hills are often blue?
Also, I checked the image out, and it's fairly colour-neutral. Not much a blue filter has been used, though it does appear so. Emeldil (talk) 09:36, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Weak Oppose. The image lacks focus. Maybe it is focusing the clouds, but it is too hazy to tell. Had it been a tilt-shift image, it would have been truly remarkable. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 01:30, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
