Cemeteries

[edit]

Hi XLerate, I wonder whether we should set up a string of cemetery stubs to match the good categorisation work that you have done. What do you think? Schwede66 20:37, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Schwede66, I think that's a good idea. Burials at Symonds Street Cemetery is at Cfd, I'll start with that one. XLerate (talk) 00:27, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you are on a roll. Just so that we don't double up, I have Linwood Cemetery in my user space. Feel free to add to it. Schwede66 06:28, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads-up, if I do any work on Linwood I'll add it there. XLerate (talk) 10:03, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Most of the information provided is virtually word for word from the Waikato Times of about 3 months ago.Further ,the NZ MOE says the 1 manager , who was doing that job at several schools, is no longer employed by the MOE in that capacity. Most likely these sudden departures are the result of the special ERO report requested by the community to investigate allegations of poor leadership ,mismanagement ,issues around health and safety of students and other matters after a series of 20-30 out of court settlements bought against the management. This info is not entered as there was no specific public reference to these matters.Usually ERO reportrs are published but I am unsure about special ERO reports. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.86.93.70 (talk) 20:45, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Virtually word for word" is rather problematic and any such contribution will have to be removed immediately. Please review WP:COPYVIO. Schwede66 21:36, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Key

[edit]

I think the intro sentence you reverted to on the John Key article provides inadequate chronological context (none really). It should at least tell us when he took office—it's not enough to just say "current" and give us some rather meaningless number in a sequence of office-holders. Everyking (talk) 02:21, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is a concise chronology in the next sentences. I think if the intro was expanded to several paragraphs then an additional sentence in the first paragraph saying "since 2008" would be fine. XLerate (talk) 04:17, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Is it possible anyone in the community can fix the information on this page? It needs to be updated as Damien is now again the current MP for the west coast after defeating Chris Auchinvole. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Testthebest (talkcontribs) 19:42, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated the infobox, the text looks ok to me. XLerate (talk) 21:59, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Brian Aldridge, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page QSM (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi XLerate .. Can i ask why you removed the link from the clay pigeon page pls ? the website it links to is a non-profit clay pigeon shooting team for the london ambulance service ( and soon to be national ambulance service team) and our aim is to promote the sport worldwide . the only advertising we have on the site is for adwords which helps (though no where near ) to pay for our server costs. The link was not spam and we are able/willing to offer help and advice to anyone wanting to join the sport . I know this because i run the team and any advertising (as such) is to promote the sport NOT profit you left https://sites.google.com/site/clayplattina/ which is to a profit making website and DOES breech the enternal link guidelines .. why? this link IS clearly spam . A tag has been placed on America&, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hi XLerate I'm confused as to why you removed the Free Theatre section from the section titled "Christchurch", under the sub-heading "Theatre". That is, I'm not sure why it seems proper to have information about one of the theatres here (incorrectly called Christchurch's only professional theatre in the wiki entry) and not the Free Theatre, which is also a professional company. This is not promotional, or a soapbox: it is simply factual information that someone wanting to read about the theatre scene in Christchurch would want to know. Thank you, Dr Greta Bond University of Canterbury (gretabond) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gretabond (talkcontribs) 03:30, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article New Zealand Marine Studies Centre has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Long-time unreferenced article that I'm not seeing any solid google references for. Lots of WP:MILL mentions on guidebooks, but that's not enough.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:McAuley High School logo.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:McAuley High School logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:04, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. I have just noticed this strange name for an article — Lansdowne, Wellington —and yet you made the change in 2010. Dunno why I didn't notice it before. Naming a small suburb of Masterton as if it were a suburb of Wellington must be something like having an article named Nightcaps, Dunedin (I'm not all that clear about the far away south) - but is that a suitably unexpected thing to do?

Please would you change it to Lansdowne, Masterton. It will look more official from you. Thanks and regards, Eddaido (talk) 04:38, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, that's an example where we need to adjust Wikipedia:Naming conventions (New Zealand) for suburbs, given that this just doesn't make sense. Schwede66 05:49, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Captain Obvious for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Captain Obvious is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Replaceable fair use File:Otago Regional Council logo.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Otago Regional Council logo.svg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:53, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:New Zealand National Party logo.svg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:New Zealand National Party logo.svg.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

[edit]
Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
