Thanks for adding all that content to those articles. Unfortunately, you created a bunch of redirects and red links. Could you please fix the former and stop creating the latter? ST1849 (talk) 02:12, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What are you talking about? Can you be more specific?Xufanc (talk) 15:27, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You created a bunch of redirects for Tugursky Bay. Could you please fix them? ST1849 (talk) 20:46, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed them, but things will be far easier if you try to do some previous research and stop using Russian genitives in geographic names before creating an article. Example Ulban Bay and not Ul'bansky Bay. Xufanc (talk) 00:16, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen both forms used in English. I figured someone might come along and change those spellings. You did. A slow clap just for you. C-L-A-P C-L-A-P C-L-A-P C-L-A-P C-L-A-P ST1849 (talk) 00:24, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Inquiry

[edit]

I appreciate your edits that are concerning German pages. One small question I have for you, respectfully, how do you manage to maintain an unbiased approach while editing? Danielle 1944 (talk) 18:48, 30 January 2017 (UTC) beginner wiki-editor[reply]

Not all articles involve that approach. But in the articles that call for it, as a rule of thumb by being mindful that there are different takes or opinions on the subject and researching about both —or all of them if there are more than two. Xufanc (talk) 05:54, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me. Would you say you took that approach in this past edit? The changing of a sight word added to the conclusion of thoughts from this information. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Reichskolonialbund&type=revision&diff=599479653&oldid=550383694

Danielle 1944 (talk) 05:03, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The edit mentioned was not done by me. I did not choose word "conjecture". When it comes to Gleichschaltung much has been written a posteriori about the attitude of Germans towards it. But at that time the only thing Germans could have done was to accept it because it was imposed from above, and they could not have foreseen any of the consequences of their openly passive attitude at the time when Gleichschaltung of different types of German organizations was following its course. Opposition to it would have been only in their hearts back then, since it could only be freely expressed a posteriori, in writings done after the totalitarian government had no more power over the German people following its military defeat. Xufanc (talk) 01:06, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Reichskolonialbund&type=revision&diff=599479653&oldid=561293009 is the correct link including the word choice of "conjecture". I agree that Germans had to accept the policy due to the commands from the hierarchy of Hitler as the time. However, I am not fully sure that the word choice of conjecture is suited since as you said "Gleichschaltung" was not something the citizens of the German nation were in the position to oppose. Could you clarify for me please? Danielle 1944 (talk) 01:57, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Blue Ensign, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Weihaiwei. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Doi Lan (Phi Pan Nam Range)

[edit]

As you wrote the article on Doi Lan (Phi Pan Nam Range) some years ago - I am trying to match this hill with those bot-created on the cebuano wikipedia, and it seems that at the given location actually there is a hill named Doi Ian. While this could have happened by confusing the capital I with a small l, but the Thai name in the article is really Lan, Ian is spelled differently. Do you maybe still have any resources which could match the two names, and especially which name in the more common one. andy (talk) 23:18, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is a transcription error into Latin script as you point out. It was most likely in the source I consulted back then about mountains near Thoeng, but I can't check it now because it is a permanent dead link. It made sense because Doi Lan or Loi Lan (Bald Hill) is a very common name in the area for mountains where the terrain at the summit does not allow the forest trees to grow and is grassy or rocky. The name Doi Ian ("Fed up with it Hill" or "Sick of it Hill") is very uncommon. Thank you for telling me about this. Even in Thai Wikipedia nobody noticed. Now I have made two separate articles. Xufanc (talk) 14:46, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing this up, I now adjusted the items on Wikidata accordingly as well - there was one bot-created article on the real Doi Lan already to be merged. andy (talk) 22:31, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

[edit]

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Move page to Phu Tabberk

[edit]

Hello Xufanc - sorry - I deleted my wish to move the page "Phu Thap Boek" to "Phu Tabberk" again. The title is okay. The first read introduction and link number 5 led me on the wrong track of the "Phu Tabberk". With kind regards --KusiD (talk) 11:43, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well - the longer I deal with this post - I'm convinced that my first thought was not so bad after all. You certainly do not describe the "Phu Thap Boek" here. This starts with the height of the mountain, followed by the location, the management, the inhabitants and so on. My suggestion is now: because the title does not fit the post, it would have to be changed to "Phu Tabberk". I would make the necessary adjustments. Since my English (as Swiss) is not as good as yours, I would be glad if you would read my changes. With kind regards --KusiD (talk) 12:44, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
KusiD and Paul_012, sorry for the delay in replying. I remember I used Thai military maps when I did some of these mountain articles. But since my wife had a massive stroke I am checking Wikipedia only irregularly. It is possible that there is a confusion. please give me some time.Xufanc (talk) 15:27, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Terribly sorry to hear about that—hope she recovers well. I'll see what I can do with the article in the mean time. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:34, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. If you have time, you might want to re-check the article, as it seems to include a confusion between Phu Thap Boek and Phu Man Khao, which are two separate peaks. Thanks. --Paul_012 (talk) 03:19, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Xufanc, thank you for creating pages like Manipur (princely state). According to Xtools, 77% of the content is yours, and most of it is probably good.

But I also find edits like this, which added unsourced content under existing citations. Such edits destroy WP:Text-source integrity. We don't know in the end, what part is sourced and what part is not. Our only recourse is to delete everything and start from scratch again. I hope we don't need to do that with this article, but I notice that there are some extremely controversial issues that need care in treatment. So at least some of this content will have to go. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 10:07, 18 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Kautilya3, all this was many years ago. My wife had a massive stroke in 2016 and is paralyzed at home. I am looking after her and am not writing any lengthy articles for Wikipedia such as Manipur (princely state) anymore. I can't even recall the circumstances. Please do as you see fit.Xufanc (talk) 21:27, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for responding despite your difficult circumstances. Please don't worry about it. I can sort it out. All the best with your family! -- Kautilya3 (talk) 21:33, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anyuyskiy and Aluchin (volcano)

[edit]

Greetings,

are there sources for the edits on Aluchin (volcano) and Anyuyskiy? Also, I am not sure that https://basov-chukotka.livejournal.com/368102.html На Анюйском вулкане satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for appropriate sources. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:55, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anyuyskiy is an incomplete name. It is the genitive form of "Anyuy" in the Russian language (of Anyuy). For example, the mountain chain is named "Anyuyskiy Khrebet" in Russian (the mountains of Anyuy). The volcano would be "Anyuyskiy Vulkan". The other sources in the article also mention "The first data on isotopic age of Anyui volcano (Chukotka)", "Anyui Volcano in Chukotka...", etc. The "На Анюйском вулкане" page may not be appropriate from an academic point of view, but it mentions the complete name of the volcano. For Aluchin, I added an infobox, no extra information.Xufanc (talk)

First, this is a copyright violation. What you have done is known as cut-and-paste move and infringes on my right as the author of the article, because you did not preserve the attribution. Second, I do not see any evidence that the principal meaning of Tyulgan is Tyulgan, Tyulgansky Settlement Council, Tyulgansky District, Orenburg Oblast. There is a good reason why the article has this name. Please never ever do this again.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:53, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Yama Bay" page name

[edit]

Are you sure you didn't mean Yam Bay? ST1849 (talk) 05:53, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The river is named Yama, the genitive would be Yamskaya. The Olsky District is named after river Ola in the same area, keeping the Russian genitive. Yam Bay would not be wrong, because the origin of the name is in v'ayam, a local Chavchuven term for river. The final "a" comes from the Russian language. If you prefer Yam, it is also OK. The name of the islands nearby has also been transcribed without the "a". Xufanc (talk) 14:26, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've never seen it called that in English once. I'm gonna move it back. Same with Gizhigin Bay. Why are you changing names? I've always seen it spelled Gizhigin Bay. Never Gizhiga Bay. ST1849 (talk) 05:10, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The bays are named after the rivers. Gizhigin Bay is wrong. Why are you feeling so strongly about this? Why are you getting so personal? Better check scholarly works on whales for example and maps of the Library of Congress instead of perpetuating errors in your deep ignorance of inflected words. U with main town Alohkapw

[edit]

Hi Xufanc,

you'll certainly remember U, Pohnpei. I am editing in that area, mainly in the de-WP, but also in the en-WP, and I would be curious about te source that says that Alohkapw is the main town of U Municipality (I would be interested in the main towns of other municipalities, too). The book by Panholzer and Mauricio places Alohkapw in Madolenihmw Municipality, not in U. Greetings,--Ratzer (talk) 11:14, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ratzer,
Unfortunately it is not possible me to track this. It was so long ago. I think I was in a library and I wrote the article consulting a physical book or atlas. The information I used as source was not from the internet. Regards, Xufanc (talk) 03:43, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your redirect from manigua

[edit]

It seems that back in 2012 you created a page for the term manigua that is a redirect to the article on tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests.

Well, I've just come to Wikipedia to learn what manigua means. But I found myself transported someplace with very little notion why and only a bit better guess about even what general category of concepts that manigua might involve. What about tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests? Is that what a manigua is? Would

"A tropical or subtropical moist broadleaf forest"

constitute a definition of the word manigua? Or maybe a manigua is one particular type of tropical or subtropical moist broadleaf forest? Or...?

So, because Wikipedia articles aren't supposed to create this kind of experience for users, I have a suggestion/request. Is there any chance you could augment the article for those who mysteriously find themselves beamed there?—PaulTanenbaum (talk) 16:05, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Xufanc (talk) 03:38, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Revista de Historia Militar (ISSN 0482-5748) published by the Ejército de Tierra de España

[edit]

Hello Xufanc,

I am directly approaching you as one of the task force participants of the Spanish military history task force, which invites interested parties to contact you.

The magazine/academic journal by the Ministerio de Defensa of the Kingdom of Spain which I cited above has been published twice a year since 1957. I created its article, duly referenced to
(1) CSIC = the Spanish National Research Council), to
(2) Dialnet (an academic research network) of University of La Rioja, to
(3) the Real Colegio de Artillería, to
(4) the Ministry itself (ejercito.defensa.gob.es), and to
(5)a book, namely ISBN 978-84-617-2104-7, citing page 59.

Well, the English Wikipedia entry about Revista de Historia Militar has just now been draftified, four months later, and after others have contributed to it. I would appreciate it if you could have a gander at it, and, if you think it fair, push the big blue button "submit the draft for review!" if you deem it appropriate.

Note: a version of this article (in Spanish) exists at wikipedia in Spanish (I know we consider other wikipedias irrelevant, but it probably does not hurt to mention it).

Else, we can always delete it. I would appreciate any comments you may have. XavierItzm (talk) 05:34, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The page Ta Chan has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguated only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ended in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguated zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • was a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that did not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review. I made a redirect. There is no information for "Zhyngghyldyözek" in Google. Please find a scholarly article on the river that uses that transcription.Xufanc (talk) 11:06, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The problem still exists - other pages are linked as Zhyngghyldyözek in Wikidata and this one is not, I do not know how to solve it. Xx236 (talk) 11:32, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also don't know how to fix it, but in Kazakhstan there are places such as (Aktobe, Aqtöbe, Aqtobe) which have more than one transliteration in Wikipedia. These options are surely reflected in Wikidata, so there must be a way. Xufanc (talk) 13:04, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article Sombold So 344 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Sources cited are unreliable (one is a scraping of this very article), no mention in established RS. To all appearances this is just a winderwaffen spoof.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. I wrote the article 9 years ago when I was teaching. At the school library there was a thick book on WW2 aircraft. It was catalogued as one of the projects of the last phase of the Nazi Regime. I doubt it is a Wunderwaffe spoof. Xufanc (talk) 03:55, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification. Another editor has supplied a reliable cite and has removed the deletion proposal. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 09:46, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
