User block log

[edit]

My apologies, but I don't understand this block log for User:Cool1019. It says the user was blocked for abuse of multiple accounts, etc., but the user page indicates a new name and contributions resolve to active member User:Charles Edward. Is this a blocked user or something else? Flowanda | Talk 10:47, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea. I wasn't the original blocking admin, I just tweaked block settings, but it looks like Charles Edward is admitting to abusing multiple accounts. If any other admins who blocked him are active, they may have insight, or try AN/I with a link to the sockpuppet case. ST47 (talk) 06:32, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, I think I got it. this may be more enlightening. The user changed usernames, and then the old username was taken over by a vandal, who presumably chose that username in a (failed ;) ) attempt to trick us into blocking a legitimate user. I didn't realize that username changes left the old username open to squatting, that really shouldn't happen, but I'm sure someone fixed that within the two years since it happened. Hope this clears things up, ST47 (talk) 06:35, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya! Could you double-check this block, please? I see one possibly accidental page-blanking, and no other problematic edits. --jpgordon::==( o ) 04:51, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, ST47. I tried getting in touch with you on IRC just now since you appeared to be online, but didn't get a response. Regarding your block of this user, I took a look at their contributions and it appears they've got a long history of useful edits to the project (link), including some just minutes before the page blanking. They requested unblocking, claiming that the blanking was an accident, and I couldn't find anything to lead to any belief otherwise. I accepted their request for that reason, and because an indefinite block for a single page blanking seemed excessive in any event - especially for an established editor. If you feel this was inappropriate, please let me know. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:07, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Revert

[edit]

Hi ST47,

I just thought I should let you know I half-reverted an edit you made recently; see User_talk:Porcellio for why.

You should re-do his block summary as a spammer, because he's questioning being listed as a vandal.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 02:28, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you reverting everything on that page? Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 05:36, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

consider this your last warning, if you continue reverting you will be reported to admins. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 05:38, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

As you may know, the Counter-Vandalism unit is inactive. So for reviving the WikiProject, we will need to sort out the members. So if you are active, please put your username at the bottom of the list at Wikipedia talk:Counter-Vandalism Unit#Sort out the members.

Request for Interview Regarding Wikipedia Bots

[edit]

Greetings ST47-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a graduate student at the University of Oregon, currently collecting data for my dissertation on Wikipedia editors who create and use bots and assisted editing tools, as well as editors involved in the initial and/or ongoing creation of bot policies on Wikipedia. As a member of BAG and the bot community, I would very much like to interview you for the project at a time and in a method that is most convenient for you (Gchat, another IM client, Skype, email, telephone, etc.). I am completely flexible and can work with your schedule. The interview will take approximately 30-45 minutes.

My dissertation project has been approved both by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the University of Oregon, and by the Research Committee at the Wikimedia Foundation. You can find more information on the project on my meta page.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you to set up a time to chat. Thank you very much.

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear ST47,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User script listings cleanup project

[edit]

I'm leaving this message for known script authors and recent contributors to Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts.

This scripts listing page is in dire need of cleanup. To facilitate this, I've created a new draft listing at Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts cleanup. You're invited to list scripts you know to be currently working and relevant. Eventually this draft page can replace the current scripts listing.

If you'd like to comment or collaborate on this proposal, see the discussion I started here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject User scripts#Scripts listing cleanup project. Thanks! Equazcion (talk) 00:59, 25 Mar 2012 (UTC)
