Regarding Battle of Baxi

[edit]

I noticed the strange thing about Battle of Baxi. it is said as part of Hanzhong Campaign but Hanzhong campaign itself was described started in 217-219. while the battle of Baxi was occured during 215, which is the background of the Hanzhong campaign itself judging by its chronology. i suspecting its probably because the conflict of the Point of Interest regarding the nature of that campaignAhendra (talk) 20:28, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was part of the prelude to the Hanzhong Campaign. LDS contact me

English translations for Chinese novels

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that the list of Gu Long's works are all in pinyin. On the Gu Long talk page, the only reason cited for this is that there are no "official" translation names. I really feel that this is a disservice to everyone who doesn't speak Mandarin. It essentially renders the names of all the titles meaningless. I also would like to know what constitutes official translation. Two of Gu Long's stories have been published in English (The Eleventh Son and Fox Volant of Snowy Mountain), as well as numerous T.V. shows and movies (which incidentally are listed in English on his page). Wouldn't that constitute and official translation of the original Chinese? This issue extends to all articles about the books. For example the title of the article for 小李飞刀 is "Xiaoli Feidao" as opposed to "Little Li's Flying Dagger." I really disagree with this. The article for 水浒传 is entitled "Water Margin," not Shui Hu Zhuan.

If there's a guideline about this somewhere already established, I apologize. I tried to search around for it but had no luck. Also, I don't want to go in and just make a bunch of changes willy-nilly. The titles of his novels are so vivid and interesting, I feel it's a real shame to change them into pinyin. What is your opinion on this? Laobaisjz (talk) 08:36, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my main reason for reverting this edit of yours is that you added external links from the spcnet forums, which are generally not acceptable (see WP:LINKSTOAVOID). I do agree with your point on having English translations for the titles of Chinese novels. However, these translations must be official or are non-official but have become so commonly used that they are accepted as the de facto official translations (see WP:OFFICIAL and WP:COMMONNAME). Thank you. LDS contact me 08:51, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
