Haham Hanuka RfC

[edit]

No, I'm not looking for a translation of the entire page. I'm just admitting that I don't speak Hebrew, and can't pass final judgement on the issue.

To play devil's advocate, what if you and Nadavspi have a personal axe to grind with Haham Hanuka and are deliberately smearing him on Wikipedia? I don't have any reason to believe that, but I'm not qualified to evaluate the evidence myself. That's all.

What are you hoping to accomplish through this RfC, by the way? Is this the first step on the road to an ArbCom decision to ban him for search engine spamming, or do you want him to reform? --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 01:00, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brian, I'm not trying to suggest that you're on trial or anything here.  :) I'm just curious what you're seeking to accomplish. I wasn't familiar with the full back story, and I didn't want to be in a position of jumping to conclusions in a user conduct issue. Cheers, --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 01:45, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you are a great believer in Democracy. After having read the position of all Wikipedians in the matter of your userpage, you are requested to clean out of it immediately all its impropper components. דוד שי 13:49, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)

A. The positions of all Wikipedians was related to my experiment [Italics are my emphasis. This was the subsection title for the word list, search engine spam], not the porno stars.
B. I expect to lift protection from the entry Silicone implant which I wrote. See [.he name for] Village Pump. --חכם חנוכה 14:15, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)
Don't waste my time with futile arguments. If you believe that Wikipedians demanded only the removal of your experiment, first of all, remove it, after words we can clarify treatment for the rest of the page. דוד שי 14:31, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)
First of all, lift the protection from the Silicone implant entry (go into the history of the page and see what took place there). Afterwards, we can speak about my experiment. --חכם חנוכה 14:49, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)
Don't play games. It has been decided unanimously that you must remove the experiment. This bears no relation to Silicone implant. Remove the section immediately. If not – I will doso myself. And I'll activate protection on your userpage. FYI, your last words constitute extortion and even threats. Another thing, soon I will finish translating Wikipedia:User page, and in accordance with its guideline (translated from the English Wikipedia you love so), you will discover that it is prohibited for you to include even the biographies, and that your assertion, that accroding to it, this is your personal page and you can write whatever your mind fancies, is flawed. Remove the "experiment," and immediately. - רועי | (שיחה) |]] 15:14, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)
Hanuka – I am issuing an ultimatum. If you do not remove the word list within a quarter of an hour, I will do so myself and will protect the page, so that you will be unable to edit it. -- רועי | (שיחה) |]] 15:14, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)
It has already been removed, as for the conduct here, I already issued complaints against you to the Wikimedia managment. In the mean time, I am moving to the English Wikipedia. It is because of people like you that our country looks how it does. --חכם חנוכה 15:17, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)
To prevent error, I note that Haham Hanuka did not remove the offending text. I had to do so myself after he persisted in his refusal. דוד שי 15:23, 30 ספט' 2004 (UTC)

Hope this helps, El_C 06:41, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can you take a look at the Pic of the Day for Wikipedia:Picture of the day/May 12, 2005. In particular the URL for the original credit no longer seems to be valid - and neither are most other links to the same anim on the web. -- Solipsist 07:18, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Spoken article for main page

[edit]

Hey Brian, if you're around today I have a spoken version of an article that will be featured. It's Francis Petre, and is scheduled to be posted May 6, i.e. in a few hours. I'm just doing the finishing touches now and it should be ready by the top of the hour, 5 pm eastern time. I'll post another note when it's uploaded. Sorry for the short notice. -Cheers, -Willmcw 20:17, May 5, 2005 (UTC)

OK, it's up: image:Francis_Petre.ogg. Cheers, -Willmcw 21:15, May 5, 2005 (UTC)

OK, now it's really up. Whew. (uploading problems). -Willmcw 21:45, May 5, 2005 (UTC)

Battles of the Operations against Fort Fisher

[edit]

I'm having trouble seeing why the following two categories are needed.

28.3.7.4.2.8 - Category:Battles of the Operations against Fort Fisher and Wilmington of the American Civil War (3 articles)

28.3.7.4.2.9 - Category:Battles of the Expedition against Fort Fisher of the American Civil War (2 articles)

I stumbled across them in the process of mapping all of the categories of U.S. history (see Category_talk:United_States_history/U.S._History_map). Wouldn't one cat do the job? Maybe I'm missing something here.

TIA, Mwanner 01:07, May 11, 2005 (UTC)

    • Now I get it. I had assumed Fisher I and II were one campaign, and Wilmington was the second (though it didn't appear to be different from Fisher II). Now it makes sense. Thanks, Mwanner 23:51, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

Victory categories for Civil War

[edit]

I have begun to add the victory categories for the Battles of the Civil War. After all the Battles have been tagged would it be possible to sort the various categories so you could for example see the Union Victories in chronological order, or by state. 578 (Yes?) 21:46, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This comment is coming a bit late, but I've been away from heavy WPing for a while. Just wanted to thank you for the smart decision to label it as specifically for superheroes, thus neither equating comic-book characters with superheroes nor vice versa. If I'd done it myself I might have overlooked that. Good on you. -leigh (φθόγγος) 18:40, May 19, 2005 (UTC)

Hi,
I am one of the administrators from he-Wiki, who banned Hanuka. I noticed you created a page requesting a comment on his behavior and I wanted to ask you what is the policy here regurding users like Haham and what will the administration here do about this requests for comment.
P.S. Haham means "smart" in Hebrew, and Haham Hanuka is a fictional character from an old Israely movie.

Searching for "mehl l" in PubMed finds the study and a followup. The author has published a number of other interesting articles as well; the Tasered mother one is kind of famous I think.

Notice that the midwives came out slightly ahead even after the worst 50% of the doctors were eliminated from the comparison. (more fetal distress and placental problems with the doctors)

That's pretty damning I think.

Pseudoscience clarification

[edit]

I think that the clarification line is helpful in the article Pseudoscience. It was a little messed up before, but I cleaned it up and I think it clarifies the common misconception that "pseudoscience" means "false". For example, the practices of medicine men may be pseudoscience, but they really do cure some patients. I wanted to check to see your reasoning before simply reverting your edit, so if you have a comment please post it on my talk page. Thanks. Ryan Prior 04:24, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

Your blocking of 69.193.114.91

[edit]

I noticed you blocked 69.193.114.91 for 7 days. But I can't see that his contributions warrants suche a block and he has an empty talkpage. Did you mix up two ip's and blocked the wrong one, or is there something about this case I am missing? Shanes 01:39, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

At least you have to warn him on his talkpage first. He would most likely have stopped if you had, he is a new user. And he has btw only been reverted twice. And actually blocking someone for a whole 7 days for a first time offence without any warnings? Come on... I am unblocking him now. Shanes 01:54, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Call to Action

[edit]

Whereas, much good discussion and work has previously occured on the Barnstar and award proposal page,

Whereas, the level of discussion and progress on the abovementioned page has dropped to a record level of none; no constructive commments have been made on existing awards since May 17, 2005,

Whereas, many "Vote or Die!" have been left open, namely two, as a result of this lack of discussion,

Whereas, nine proposals lie untouched by Wikipedian hands,

Whereas, you have previously commented and helped on the abovementioned page,

Therefore, I, who have absolutely no command in ordering this whatsoever, instruct you, Brian0918/Archive 06, to return to the barnstar commitment and further the creation of Wikipedian awards; vote liberally and spread your constructive comments.

I stumbled across List of people associated with the American Civil War and see you have added a lot of names. Are there criteria for which names get entered? Ancient European civilization

[edit]

I had removed your addition. First, as source for such information would be better to have an respectable academical source, not an obscure South African webpage quoting British tabloid.

Second, humans inhabited Europe for quite long time and ancient villages, megaliths and industries known to exist for quite long time. Discovering brand new "civilization" would definitely make much larger splash over the media. Pavel Vozenilek 03:10, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Barnstar moved to user page.

  • Hi, the Borlaug article is shaping up nicely :) I think what we need to focus on now is getting credible references for the impact statistics (FAO stats mabye?), and expanding the latter parts of the article, I'll work on the current research part this week, a lot more can still be said about honors and impacts and I think that his response to criticism should be discussed in some detail since he makes some very good points. Hopefully we'll have a featurable version by the end of the month. --nixie 14:33, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Voting on Wikipedia's FPC

[edit]

Hi Brian, Just had a look at the Commons FPC, and they've just introduced a cool little scheme for voting. See these templates: Template:Support, Template:Oppose. But the templates don't seem to load up on the FPC page. On the individual pages of the picture being voted on (eg Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/photo.jpg) the template works however. Just thought I'd burden you with that seeing that you're an admin! Thanks --Fir0002 11:39, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry, I had a look now and it's working. --Fir0002 12:41, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't like these templates at all. You may have noticed that I've nominated them at WP:TFD - there is also some debate at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy). -- ALoan (Talk) 23:11, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Mind Benders

[edit]

Hello! I've noticed your interest in creating logos, barnstars, or your past artistic ability! Thus, I just wanted to let you know that the pre-round, an artistic competition, is now open at Wikipedia:Mind Benders (Shortcut: WP:MIND)! The competition is open to everyone and is seeking a logo/trophy, similar to Barnstars, to be placed on every winner's page. We urge you to help us out and submit an entry! Afterwards, the normal rounds, each consisting of ten or more fun, logical, brain-stimulating questions will open. Why don't you give it a try when it opens! Look forward to seeing your contribution. WP:TFD on Template:Support

[edit]

Hi Brian,

I'm amazed at the number of comments Template:Support attracted on WP:TFD.

Since you seem to be a strong supporter of this template, it might be an idea to measure any increase in loading it may or may not cause. For example by taking a snapshot of the current WP:FPC and using a script/texteditor to produce a version of it in which all the votes are replaced by the Support/Oppose templates. Then use wget or similar to measure the average page load time.

I was getting terrible response times earlier in the week, with many saves failing. But I think they were mostly caused by my ISPs proxy and it appears to have cleared up today. -- Solipsist 15:03, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Recent reverts

[edit]

Recent reverts

You reverted several of my recent edits. Be aware that non of them were intended as vandalism. The removal of Creation and intelligent design references from Pseudoscience was based on fact that its inclusion hints at bias against creation science and intelligent design. It is also base on a false view of Creation Science. Perhapses I went about it wrong and for that I am sorry.

The addition I had made to "Consciousness causes collapse" was intended as a follow up on the Hindu reference. I simply though it would make an interesting addition. Maybe I could have worded it better.

Support/Oppose Template

[edit]

Hi Brian, Glad we're in the same boat on this one. I simply can't believe how dumb some of the reasoning on the TfD is! Anyway I did what you asked, but tell me, what exactly does it do? --Fir0002 08:03, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

I mean is it just for showing out support to the template or does it serve as a substitue for the original template? Could you have a look at mine - it's on my userpage - and see if I've done it right. Thanks! --Fir0002 23:40, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
Ok thanks, did I do it right? And I use it like the template but just put in {{User:Fir0002/Support}} for a support vote right? But what if I made another template, like {{Sup}}, which would be much smaller for typing purposes, and specifically said that it was for personal use only? The only thing is that those pages would have to be lock for editing or else people would modify the page and all the votes could be changed. --Fir0002 00:07, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
Do you know how to get a page locked?--Fir0002 00:19, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
So you don't think that people editing the template pages (for instance switching the supports with the opposes just before counting time) will be a big problem? --Fir0002 00:32, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
Ok cool, see you around! using the proper support style to ! ;-) --Fir0002 00:41, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
