The Vingo fight paragraph is wrong

[edit]

... Specifically the date. If the fight was Dec 30th, it couldn't have been 3 weeks after the December 19th fight (3 weeks = 21 days). This was cross checked with the Vingo wiki page. 2600:1015:B008:438:DD58:62B5:4129:B0BB (talk) 23:23, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

House in Ft. Lauderdale

[edit]

I dont think that address is accurate. . . firstly, the house that is currently on the address in the wiki page was built in 1971, so its impossible that "its still standing as of 2018". Secondly I see there is an article from 1994 in the Sun Sentinel (blocked by a paywall) that lists a different address on the A1A, and talks about it being "a block away from the ocean", which Wilton Manor is not near the ocean at all. this is an open call to anyone who has the ability/ time to look into this! thanks in advance AsafHaShohet (talk) 23:49, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed it. The information was unsourced, and it's better to not give specific addresses anyway as whoever lives there now could get unwanted attention. Vyselink (talk) 07:11, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

I propose merging Rocky Marciano (film) into this article. The film article is little more than a mirror of the IMDB entry and being singly sourced, does not show SIGCOV. Could easily be turned into a small section of this article without losing anything valuable. Just Another Cringy Username (talk) 02:40, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree The film is hardly noteworthy on its own, but a very small section titled something like "In Popular Culture" (to which other things could potentially be added) or something similar would be appropriate. Vyselink (talk) 06:40, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted this article to the Proposed Merger Noticeboard in hopes of getting more input and a clearer consensus. Just Another Cringy Username (talk) 03:06, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You mentioned there too that The film article is little more than a mirror of the IMDB entry and being singly sourced, does not show SIGCOV. Could easily be turned into a small section of the main article without losing anything valuable. Articles have been tagged and merger discussion has run for a week w/ little participation and no clear consensus. ....You might want to have a look at the page. It was modified (by me) before you renewed your merge request there; it is not single-sourced and has been improved. The film is clearly notable. And there is no good reason for a merge. The guideline clearly states : "Merging should be avoided if (...) The topics are discrete subjects warranting their own articles, with each meeting the General Notability Guidelines, even if short." It is very clearly the case here. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 05:52, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't see anything which couldn't fit in as a subsection of the main article. There's only a paragraph or two of real information there. The Production section is basically movie trivia. We'll see what happens on the Noticeboard. Just Another Cringy Username (talk) 06:13, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rocky Balboa

[edit]

The Rocky Balboa Wikipedia page has a link to this page that names him as one of the people Balboa’s character is based on. However, there is no mention of Rocky Balboa on this page. Why not? Shouldn’t it be in legacy? (If there’s no proof the character is based on him, shouldn’t his name be removed from the character’s Wikipedia page?) Jhurley85 (talk) 14:42, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look at the Balboa page and while Marciano is mentioned 5 times, there isn't anything (that I saw, could have missed it) that is actually sourced about the use of Marciano as an inspiration. While that should probably be addressed, it's irrelevant here I think. To put it bluntly, Rocky Balboa may owe a bit to Marciano, but Marciano owes nothing to Balboa. Vyselink (talk) 15:36, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn’t see anything concrete either about Marciano being the inspiration for Balboa. The way you put it bluntly makes sense. Thanks for answering my questions. Jhurley85 (talk) 19:38, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, as a side note, even if something gets added about Marciano's (obvious but not yet RS sourced) influence on Balboa, it shouldn't be in the "Legacy" section. That section should be kept as it is, which is literally a discussion of his Legacy and honors received etc. In fact, I have just edited the page to remove what should be in a Personal Life section from the Legacy section. If anything, any attribution to Balboa should be in a "In Popular Culture" section, which could also be created rather easily. Vyselink (talk) 15:43, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Portrayals of Rocky Marciano

[edit]

The article doesn't mention portrayals of Marciano. He was portrayed by Tony Lo Bianco in the 1979 television film Marciano[1] and he was also portrayed by Jon Favreau in the 1999 television film Rocky Marciano.[2] 201.17.90.205 (talk) 15:43, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
