His name was not Pablo

[edit]

His name was not Pablo at all. He was born in "el Vendrell" in Catalonia so hi was named Pau. No one refiere to him as Pablo Casals thats a big mistake. Pablo is the spanish translaton of Pau, a catalan name. It would be like calling Juan to Jonny Deep. Antoninho7 (talk) 01:36, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable source needed. You also changed the wording so that it read "His Spanish name of Pau", which contradicts what you say above. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 01:53, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think they were referring to “Pablo” when they said, or rather wrote, “his Spanish name of Pau”. As for sources, there are multiple articles stating that his name is Pau Casals, but most of them, if not all, are in Catalan, the native language of his homeland. Regardless of that, seeing that his opening for his speech was “I am a Catalan”, and the fact that he was averse to stepping into countries that had conferred legitimacy to the regime of Franco, I believe he would rather be remembered as “Pau”. 2601:19B:0:8690:CC5:3850:9C16:21FB (talk) 07:15, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is true. I don't know how they haven't changed it yet. It is a known fact that his name was Pau. If you search for projects and foundations, such as, Pau Casals UNESCO Chair or Fundació Pau Casals, they all bear his real name, Pau. Furthermore, if you go to the Catalan page for the article Pablo Casals, you will see that it is written as Pau Casals. Seeing as in the article in the native language spoken in his homeland, I think it is sufficient proof that his name is, indeed, Pau and not Pablo. 2601:19B:0:8690:CC5:3850:9C16:21FB (talk) 06:41, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We acknowledge that his birth name was Pau. But we refer to him as Pablo because that is BY FAR the most familiar name by which he was known all over the world, of which he considered himself a citizen. He settled and died in Puerto Rico, an American territory and not a Catalan stronghold. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 12:04, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • As has been discussed again and again, when he was living in the USA (where he was free to use whatever name he wished), he billed himself as "Pablo" and signed autographs "Pablo". This was long before Franco came to power, and had nothing to do with the Fascist regime. He was internationally famous and beloved as "Pablo Casals" for 40 years before Franco. He was proud to be born in Catalonia, and had no objection to using the name "Pablo" by choice. Shameful that we keep getting so many people objecting without actually learning the very basic facts about the great artist first. -- Infrogmation (talk) 19:06, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
