Suicide ?

[edit]

Anyone know the reason (with a resource, if possible) that he committed suicide ? Engr105th (talk) 07:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, in German Wikipedia Article there is no reason mentioned, in most German media his suicide remains uncommmented. After some research I found this article about a discussion meeting in Germany for the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII with the grand daugther of General Montgomery and the grand son of Admiral von Friedeburg. The latter referred to his grand mother who stated her husband committed suicide according to a code of honour to prefer a suicide rather than getting imprisoned. Also the grand son speculated that the fact that he signed the Unconditional Surrender could be seen as one reason (perhaps he was ashamed of it).

The article you find here (unfortunately only available in German): http://www.abendblatt.de/region/harburg/article324806/Bohrende-Fragen-zur-Kapitulation.html

One Jewish grandparent

[edit]

Many people who were classified as Jews under Nazi race law did not consider themselves to be Jewish and supported Hitler's revision of the terms forced on Germany at Versailles. The Rigg book is an excellent reference and an eye-opener in identifying the high-profile war heroes who had at least one Jewish grandparent but were allowed to serve -- and rise to high rank -- anyway. Rigg writes that appeals from "Jewish" soldiers seeking to permission to serve in the Wehrmacht went all the way to Hitler throughout the war

Another example of the complete lack of logic in Nazi racial policies. How can a religion be a "race?" (71.22.47.232 (talk) 22:20, 7 July 2010 (UTC))[reply]
