General resources

[edit]

Searching by ISSN is usually the simplest way to get good results

  • Library of Congress search - Useful for finding the LCCN number and other identifiers, like CODEN. Selecting the "Periodicals" option in the search bar will usually help locate the publication.
  • CASSI search - Useful for finding the CODEN identifier of the journal. Will very often have detailed history of mergers, splits, name changes, etc.
  • List of Title Word Abbreviations - Useful for finding the ISO 4 abbreviation of a journal.
  • MIAR search - Useful for finding indexing information when not listed on the journal's website.
  • NLM catalogue

Category maintenance

[edit]
  • Category:Academic journals is a bit of a 'shove-all' category, used when you don't know the specific category to use. Normally, it should be regularly emptied by subcategorizing their articles as shown above. ("Academic journals" being replaced with "Scientific journals", "Humanities journals" or such, plus year, frequency, etc.)
  • Category:Research and Category:Research management.
