Simple English "anti-hoax" proposal (outdated)

Notice: This is archived until further notice, as it is not related to general Wikipedia. Archived thread (collapsible does not work on mobile)

It seems that specific cartoons (which are not mainstream) on Simple English Wikipedia are often target to users frequently adding in their own "fanon", such as an early revision in the page for Numberjacks containing information that it was created by Jean-Yves Raimbaud (who couldn't have been alive in 2000), that it was a Xilam production with employees like Hugo Gittard and Marc Du Pontavice and that it had American voice actors...

This also happens with minor details, like Oggy and the Cockroaches: The Movie being "produced" by Illumination (right here, among other things), or drastically large changes like Taffy having a large voice cast, some of whom were composed of people like Tom Kenny and Phil LaMarr (unlike the dub's official cast), or even an entire redundant page dedicated to false information. (Happened with Oggy too.)

Like, it's so weird. This is Wikipedia, where it's used to document enough correct information on media. If you wanted to make fanon so much, there's Fandom. As such, I'm proposing if a better approach to fanon would be complied, with informal pages (like essays, albeit with less "fancier" Wikipedia English) and all. --WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 13:45, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This IP user has had edits reverted, but they are adding fanon to articles. While it removed one detail in Luxo Jr, they added a fake voice cast to Oggy and the Cockroaches: The Movie and completely modified Lilybuds to write it off as a comedic show produced by Xilam and with an American English cast, for whatever reason. (Maybe they don't like Lilybuds??)

I've blocked them for a week, but not sure if it will be effective or not since a lot of vandals tend to IP hop if they repeat. Hopefully we'll get lucky and this is more or less the IP they regularly access for the internet, so they'll at least see the warning. Why isn't every single hoax article archived?

Persistent hoaxes are an interesting topic ever since I discovered the page a month ago, but I wonder why every single article wasn't archived. Lack of time, maybe? Just curious. WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 07:00, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, for a while I was listing every single newly-tagged hoax article that was more than a year old and confirmed to be a hoax, but at one point I got tired of doing that. There is no accepted policy for "saving" hoaxes. Perhaps an ovvereaction to WP:BJADON days. A while ago I tried some cleanup here, but I run out of steam. Need help adding a hoax in "false statements" correctly

I got hasty and added something that irritated me for a while, as it's implausible (voice actor hoax for a silent slapstick cartoon, Oggy and the Cockroaches), but how do you do it? You can see my addition in the edit history. I need to figure stuff out because it got bad when that rumor spread.

Admitting I made a little mistake

So I added a draft article that was moved under 1 month in Wikipedia:List of hoaxes on Wikipedia/Less than one year, I'll probably add that back once 1 month has passed.
