Jon has said several times he dislikes the term 'nu-metal' so i'm replacing it by alternative metal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.80.121.33 (talk) 00:15, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
9th Studio Album
I noticed that this was on the page for a while, that the band plans on making a new album next year, but it was quickly removed. Was it factual information, or just some hopeful fan's wish that they'll return to a TALITM sound? If it's true we need to put it back. To any pro editors, sorry about putting this at the top of the page. I want everybody who comes here to see this (as it's important), and some folks are just way too lazy they can't even scroll down. Not to be rude, but what moron keeps removing the picture of Korn; we need a pic of Korn, dammit. Stop being losers, and add the damn pic again. It's pretty annoying. And does anyone know who removed the extra 2 David Silveria pics-RETURN THEM.
How do you change the name of the page from Korn to KoЯn? I've tried to do it but can't figure out how Joesthebomb 17:47, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
To change the name we'd have to actually change what you type in when searching for KoЯn. I say it's not something that needs to be worried about.68.80.58.174 18:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Even though they're mallcore, SOAD didn't have any turntables and shit so they're not really nu metal. they're only associated with nu metal for being mainstream as hell. TightKid 3:28 pm, 18 January 2007 (UTC) Their last albums may be mainstream, but they have recorded the heaviest riffs ever, especially on their debut albums, and this is due to the usage of down-tuned seven string guitars. Listen to them and then to so-called "heavy" metal bands, and you'll see who is heavier.78.3.0.82 18:15, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Not sure, but i read somewhere that Serj likes Korn. Is it true? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.35.228.113 (talk) 18:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC).
- you can call them mainstream, and i wouldnt even contest they are, but neither set out to be anything regular or common, in fact, they were both amongst the most inovative and experimental bands ever, and both early korn and early soad is little short of brilliant. (they both suck now though). Lygophile has spoken 02:57, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

NPOV
Section 1, "Johnathon Davies has said Korn's music cannot be classified" - because, perhaps, he might have a vested interest in trying to single it out? Common classification is fairly established. Achromatic 09:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
About another nu metal group, a certain Wesley Dodds has said the same thing: "Bands aren't usually considered reliable sources for assigning themselves genres, since they can often reject common descriptions assigned to them for whatever reason, even if that description makes perfect sense.". I think in the same way. Maybe their roughest fans don't consider Korn to be metal. --Chargin' Chuck 13:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Band's name
So where did they come up with the name "KoЯn"? The article explains what "LAPD" (the band's original name) stands for, but not what inpired the band's final choice for a name. — Loadmaster 15:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Terry Bozzio is NOT a member of Korn, he is filling in for David.
It's actually a little gross. When Johnathan was in his old band he heard about two gay guys eating eating other out, and when one of them came up he had a piece of corn in his teeth. It was a sick inside joke at the time the band started up.
- That isn't true. It's simply one of a whole myriad of stories on the origin of the bands name. If you can find an interview where he states this as being 100% true and not just a joke, then that's different, but from what i've heard directly from the mouths of the band members, that's not true.68.255.228.81 13:53, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'd like to do a little speculation, although foreseen and apparently ridiculous: probably Jonathan Davis likes eating Corn Flakes every morning. --Chargin' Chuck 22:32, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- lol. What I have heard about this is that "Corn" is a odd name and no one would forget it. It is draw and named "KoRn" because it should be a child writing that.Stranhorox 20:48, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Band name
well here are a couple quotes from Jonathan Davis: "Korn" popped in my head, and I'm like 'What about "Korn"?' ... and we're all like, 'Fuck yeah!'" .. "To me it kind of means that it doesn't matter what your band is called. Name or not, the music makes a name, you know... 'cause "Korn", that's a dumb name, but once a band gets established, then it makes a name cool. -- There are two other persistent rumors: 1- Korn means "Kiddy Porn" 2- a story that includes eating corn, a party, felching and diarrhea .. You can put the details together yourself since they're different every time someone tells the story anyway.
- Doesnt mean much, but I swear to god that there was once an mp3 circulating where in an interview Jon confirmed the "eating corn, a party, felching and diarrhea" story. I don't expect you to take my word for it, but I used to be obsessed with this band and I assure you that this is the reason for the name, or at least Jon made it up, but I've heard him say it. The "popped in my head" quote is from their "Who Then Now" video.
The origin of the name is from the gay porn video, one guy put a peice of corn on the cob, in the other guys ass. Thats where Jon got the idea for the name, "Who Then Now?" says it just popped into his head (from watching that video". 80.229.169.189 14:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Influence on other artists
Finally is here! Thank you.
- It kind of reads like an advertisement, frankly. The grammar is wrong, words such as "cites" should be changed to "cited," since the event has already occurred and Wikipedia isn't a band magazine, so it maintains some amount of NPOV. Shadowrun 19:07, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
I would like to see a section on who Korns influences were.
Being a metal fan myself since 1986 I can hear many different types of older style metal in their music, including death metal, grindcore and industrial metal which were well established as genres by 1990.Take Godflesh for example, they were an industrial metal band from England. Listen to their album StreetCleaner from 1989 and you will see what I mean, I would be very surprised if at least one of the Korn members had not been influenced by that album.. The Severe down tuning of their guitars which was made popular by the thrash/death metal genres is also proof of their underground metal influences and certain parts of certain songs would not be out of place on a death metal album including some of those guttural roars done by the lead singer. So, some more info in this regard please, at the moment this article sounds a bit like a Korn worship FanMag for me...
Why was Sepultura removed from this section? It is not a secret that the album Roots was heavily influenced by Korns 1st record.--DevilsAlwaysCry 01:20, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

The article needs to be partially re-written
There are some weak sections in this article. Particularly from "See You On The Other Side" onwards. There are several footnotes needed and clumsy style should be removed in order to improve aesthetic value of this article. I think all information about 8th studio album should be included in its separate article, because it looks clumsy in the main article. Are there any volunteers to help? :) Broken soul 20:09, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
The Rabbit and the Horse
What are they, exactly? I saw them on the "See you on the otherside" album and then agian on the live tape of Freak on a leash, are they mascots of the band or something? 70.16.21.142 03:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Genre
I removed 'Funk Metal', because they're straight nu metal. I'm on the edge with Alternative Metal, I think we should remove that too though, because nu metal describes every element of their music perfectly. Thoughts?
Creation Destruction 16:33, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, Fieldy's bass-playing style is very funk-influenced. He and Head were in a funk band called Rag Tyme before forming Korn. And, to me at least, a lot of Fieldy's rhythms are very funky. So yes, Korn should be partially classified as funk metal.
Yeah, but is "Funk-metal" even a known subgenre? what other bands are "funk metal" (and don't say RHCP, as they have almost no metal influence at all). AnthonyG 21:25, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, "Funk Metal" is a fairly known subgenre, a notable group would be Primus, and definately some of Mr. Bungle's earlier work.
Rage Against the Machine and Faith no more are also Funk metal.
Funk and Hip-hip influences are the main thing that separates nu-metal from other types of metal. It's redundant to list them as additional genres for a nu-metal band. 123.3.24.173 01:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Liam I'll remove gothic rock.they're not a goth band.
Why the hell is Progressive Metal even mentioned in the genres? I'm going to remove it.
Progressive and goth are both their because of their new album, which shows both of those genres.
I think experimental should be added to the genre's list, becaues they have always changed the way their music sounds by using differnt and unique instruments. For example on See You On The Other Side they used a glass harmonica and on their new album they are using 8 string guitars and 15 string basses. Anyone else agree?ROSALES 27 01:40, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Korn's official Myspace states their Genre as Rock / Metal / Hardcore 80.229.169.189 21:03, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Korn are not progressive metal. They do not fit wikipedias article for progressive metal and I am removing the genre, it doesn't matter if they claim they are, they are not. I suggest you put them under genre disputed Zanders5k
If you listen to their new song "I Will Protect You" it fits everything described in the wikipedia article for progressive metal. ROSALES 27 03:01, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Why is the tag Industrial Metal there?
I am removing the "progressive metal" label for several reasons:
1. The citation currently says absolutely nothing about progressive metal.
2. I did visit the citation link at one point, soon after it was posted, in which it mentioned quite briefly that "one or two songs" would have "some proggy influence." This does not make Korn progressive metal any more than "I've Just Seen a Face" makes the Beatles a country band, because "one or two songs" involving "proggy influence" does not reflect on their overall sound.
3. This new album has not even been released yet. If they prove they have indeed switched gears to be a progressive metal band, that will justify adding "progressive metal" to their listed genres.
4. It says on Korn's own Wikipedia page that Terry Bozzio has already left the band for yet unknown reasons. He may have recorded a few tracks with the band, and being a progressive rock drummer, they may be "proggy" songs, but it sounds like the new album will only have a little bit of dabbling in progressive elements at best, so I think this justifies removal of the "progressive metal" tag.
Ratiuglink 00:07, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
I have heard the song "I will protect you" and it does not fit the "progressive rock" label. Please explain how you think it does. and I have never heard of Korn being referred to as progressive anywhere, it doesn't really count if one website says they are. Zanders5k 02:59, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
ROSALES 27, are you at all familiar with any progressive metal artists? I don't understand why you are so set on Korn being Progressive metal. The song you claimed fit everything in the progressive metal article was in an even time signature, had a typical song structure and wasn't longer than standard rock songs or musically complex, it was pretty straight forward. how does it "fit everything described in the wikipedia article for progressive metal"? I think you should do more research before claiming that Korn are progressive metal Zanders5k
What should stay: Nu Metal, ALternative Metal. SYOTOS is pretty pop-oriented industrial, and the new songs from their 8th album seems to be that way too. So we could put Insutrial Metal(Rock), but we'll need to explain: Those are the songs from SYOTOS and after, only that. Gothic Rock, Progreessive Rock and whatever other genres must be removed while the new album is still unreleased. Acoustic Rock is ridicolous. Korn made an Unplugged, but they are not native acoustic musicians. They just played their songs in a other way. The album is acoustic, but they are not. --Stranhorox 00:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Members of Korn have all claimed their new album has progressive elements. The song "I will protect you" does fit the wikipedia article.
1. The length of a song alone does not determine the genre of a song.
2. All the instruments described in the prog. metal article (Electric guitar - Bass guitar - Drums & Percussions - Keyboards) are all heard on the song.
3. Terry Bozzio, who is famous for being a progressive drummer, co-wrote "I will protect you" and the rest of the album. Bozzio's progressive influence can definantly be heard in the middle section of the song. If you cant hear his progessive influence in this song, then you must have heard a different song.
Also, by the sources I have added you can see that I'am not the only one who can hear that Korn has a progressive sound in their music.
ROSALES 27 06:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Longer song length is usually the result of an uncommon song structure and having the instruments listed as being usual for a genre doesn't make you fit a genre. Also, I would like you point out what is progressive about the song instead of asking me to listen to it. Having rather complex drums in the bridge of a song doesn't make something progressive, or else a ton of classic rock songs would be progressive. I have nothing against the band Korn, I just don't think that is an accurate genre for them to be put under, though the genre of progressive metal has apparently become much more open than it used to be... Zanders5k 06:48, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
As a compromise I think we should do what Stranhorox suggested. We can wait until the new album is released, then we can make a decision on whether or not progressive metal and gothic rock should be added to the genre list. I also want to bring up the question of whether or not experimental would fit in the genre list. I think it should be added becaues they have always changed the way their music sounds by using differnt and unique instruments. For example on See You On The Other Side they used a glass harmonica and on their new album they are using 8 string guitars and 15 string basses, but does anyone else agree with me? ROSALES 27 06:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Experimental? I agree. --201.34.189.138 19:56, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Jonathan has said several times he dislikes the term 'nu-metal' so i'm replacing it by alternative metal. Note 'nu-metal' in the section where their style and influence on other bands is described, but don't put it in the first fukin sentence of this page. Incorrect info in opening section
I noticed the last 2 sentences in the opening section contained incorrect info, so I edited it to make it correct. The first part that was incorrect was that Korn had 8 multiplatinum certified albums. I assumed this was referring to certification in the U.S., in which the correct answer is 4, not 8. Also, they are not the metal/rock band that has the most videos retired on TRL. Korn has 4 videos retired on TRL, while Limp Bizkit has 5, so I took the TRL line out. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anthony G (talk • contribs) 03:19, 15 March 2007 (UTC).

Terry Bozzio, but i don't think that is enough to be in asociated acts. --Stranhorox 18:55, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Not only should Fantômas be removed from the assosiated act's list Otep and Evanescence should be removed also. Because Bozzio is not and never was an offical member of Korn or Fantômas, Otep should be removed Patterson was not a member of Otep when he was touring with Korn and Evanescence because Zach Baird only provided programming for their first album. I put Missing Persons as an associated act (Bozzio played with and was a member of them), Billy Goat (Baird was an official member), and Illium and The Changing (Chase was an official member). It does not matter. Check RIAA.COM then gold/platinum database. It says "platinum" for "See You On The Other Side". That is the only true way to verify. People have this idea also that if an album sells 5 million that it is automatically 5xP. It is solely up to the RIAA to determine how many platinum certifications an album has earned.

Limp Bizkit on influence on other artist
Hey Limp Bizkit has a much influence and realtionship wiith Korn then any other band. Fiedly and Head made friends with Fred Durst when playing shows at Jacksonville, Flordia Fred was a tatoo artist and gave they both tatoos hey also passed along a Limp Bizkit demo tape Mental Aquaducts they were not impressed. However when they came back Fred gave them a demo tape which featured Wes Borland they were impressed and passed it on to thier producer Ross Robinson who singed they to a record deal and helped produce theier first ablum Three Dollar Bill Y'all. They were featured on both the 1998 Family Values Tour and 1999 were Korn passed the headlining job to them. They were featured on Korn TV before Follow The Leader was released. Jonthan Davis and the rest of the bands appeared in Limp Bizkit's "Faith" music Video. Jonthan Davis also appeared in the "Break Stuff" video. Fred Durst appeared in the Korn video for "Got The Life" and directed and appeared in the "Falling Away from me" video. Finally they both preformed together in a "Back 2 Bascis" tour in 2003.This should be put into the artcile.TG 50 12:54, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Wikiproject
I don't know how to start one but I think there should be a Wikiproject for Korn. Some great artists have a wikiproject going for them and I belive Korn is qualified as a great artist. So someone who is good at that stuff should make one for this band. Skeeker [Talk] 05:37, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think what quantifies a good Wikiproject is a collective of Wikipedians who have a (somewhat) unified purpose. I think there are too many "own agendas" amongst the Korn page editors. Until a consensus, a sense of unity and a central agenda can be found, I would be against its creation. There is however a handful of wikiprojects you could encourage coverage with, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Metal, Wikipedia:WikiProject Rock music, Wikipedia:WikiProject Alternative music, Wikipedia:WikiProject Emo music and so on and so forth (I know they're not emo, but in scope of project emo is gothic alternative, of which Korn are on the fringe). Myabe start a WikiProject task force within one of these (probably most appropriately, Metal) and if it builds momentum in encouraging quality and you can avoid edit wars (which are somewhat prevalent here, currently) then it'd be reasonable then to promote the task force to a WP of its own. --lincalinca 08:57, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Time for clean-up?
Korn's wiki has way too much stuff included on the front page. Isn't it time to start "archiving" some portions of the wiki? Like the SYOTOS section could be cut down some and some info stored into the SYOTOS wiki. The 'Recent history' section should go in my opinion and cut into other sections (SYOTOS and Untitled). And why does 2007's Family Values Tour have it's own section? Tjohnsond 14:48, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Definitely agree, and I'm willing to help. I think, mostly starting with See You on the Other Side, EMI (2005-2006) through 2007 Family Values Tour, there's a ton of unneeded information there, and yeah, the last section and Recent history shouldn't be there at all. Untitled album really is a mess, too. Lovetoadmire 01:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
So, I'm in the process of fixing up every section, and removing Recent history, Jonathan Davis' illness and 2007 Family Values Tour. Those last two are each already in the Jonathan Davis wiki and the Family Values wiki.
There are a ton of grammar mistakes and some false information, otherwise the first six sections will pretty much look the same, with Head's departure merging with See You on the Other Side, EMI. Untitled album will be shortened down a lot and I really don't agree with any of the sections after Discography. They definitely should be cut.
I'm waiting for any objections before I finish everything. Lovetoadmire 19:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
No objections here. I'll help out a bit too and cut down some things. Tjohnsond 22:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I finally got around to getting the table of contents sections straightened out. Everything looks a lot better now, imo. Lovetoadmire 21:28, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Brian was kicked?
I'm not entirely sure, but I seem to remember reading that Brian was kicked, he didn't leave, but Brian didn't want them to look bad so he said he left. Is this true? 75.176.88.223 05:50, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Whoever said that is obviously on crack. Why would a "staged" feud have gone on for over 2 years now? Just discard it as an urban myth. Dark Executioner 14:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Dark Executioner
Fixed up the opening section, just a bit
I provided sources for the two sentences that mention the Billboard 200, and I tagged a few things: Korn selling over 30 million worldwide and 18 million in the United States, as well as David returning in October. I know for sure that 18 million sold in the U.S. is a bit off, and there have been no official confirmations of David returning in October. Also, the bit on Hit Parader's 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Vocalists and Guitar World's 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists doesn't seem very important to be in the introduction, and those two rankings are already in List of awards and nominations for Korn anyway. I'm wanting to get rid of that paragraph and the following sentence: "To date Korn has scored 6 Grammy nominations, and won 2 such awards". Lovetoadmire 00:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Yep, good job. I think this can be moved into the SYOTOS section (and a little bit more added to it) and the Head's Departure section can be removed: While in the recording process of See You on the Other Side, Brian "Head" Welch announced that he had "...chosen the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, and would be dedicating his musical pursuits to that end",[1] and was formally leaving Korn. This was the band's first line-up change in their history. Tjohnsond 22:56, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Combined JD's illness to SYOTOS
JD's illness story is combined in the SYOTOS section now. It makes sense to put it there considering that they were touring in support of the album (SYOTOS) when he got sick. His illness doesn't need a separate section anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tjohnsond (talk • contribs) 23:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
The "untitled" album section
That whole section needs to be re-written, as it is written in a "future" style...basically looking forward to the album release.
Since the album was release already, it is kind of a weird read. Also, that album was very successful, I don't have the stats for it, but I know it sold like crazy when it was released.
So if someone with more time than I have could be kind and re-write that, perhaps whomever wrote the article about that album, it would be appreciated :)

Worldwide sales
It's 25 million. I counted up the numbers from the Discography, and it's at least that much, so please, stop changing it to 30 or 35. :] Lovetoadmire 00:45, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
That goes for the 16.5 million in the US as well. Don't be a smartass. Lovetoadmire 05:26, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
