[edit]The First Picture Posted in this Article is incorrect as i am brahmin and all the brahmins do not cut their hairs like pandit during the samshan yatra which is shown in the picture. The people carring the arthi or Body should have hairs on their head and only pundit who chants mantra should not have hairs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.119.102.18 (talk) 10:11, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
I think this article needs to become more informative and clear (even though it does specify, to its credit, that funeral customs vary among Hindus); for instance, it needs to specify the language(s) to which the words such as 'antyesti', 'shamshana', 'pitr', etc... belong. Another instance that I can think of right now is the need for citations. Subravenkat 21:26, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
The "direction of the dead" is specified to be both North and South in the article!! It definitely needs a cleanup. Asd28 05:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Please check how the dead body is placed. I think head should point towards north: [1]. Also,I think the content should be enriched with the scintific reason on why such things are performed. I am sure there is. Nothing is without any scientific logic. [Unsigned comment - copied from article space]
I have done a large cleanup so the article makes sense. I still don't know whether it is factually accurate but it is at least readable. Far more sources are needed. PeterBennettfriedpies (talk) 18:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
This article is scarcely readable, it contains all manner of grammatical and semantic errors. Let alone confused and unclear details. I have tried to correct some of these flaws but they are very extensive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.145.154 (talk) 03:29, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Hindu burials -- need citation
[edit]The article asserts that "large sects of Hindus" bury their dead, without qualifying "large" or offering a reference. However, the Vedas specify cremation in all but a few exceptional cases. Please provide an authoritative reference in Hindu scriptures for this claim. An assertion in a blog or popular magazine by a non-Hindu or a non-practicing Hindu is not sufficient. Also, as a practicing Hindu I am not aware of any "sects" in Hinduism. Every Hindu worships/ venerates every Hindu god or goddess. Sooku (talk) 03:30, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
