Jyrki Hämäläinen (born. 1984 Porvoo[1]), who is also known as Spider, is a Finnish author, journalist and musician.

Hämäläinen is best known as the author of Killing Joke biography Killing Joke: Are You Receiving? (2020). It's the first biography about the post-punk group. By March 2021 it had sold over 600 copies..[1] It has been reviewed in such magazines asVive Le Rock-[2] and Classic Rock.[3] Academic publication Punk & Post-Punk Journal praised the research and amount of indepth interviews of the book.[4] German Ox- magazine praised the use of large archive materials as well as the broad interviews and attention to detail.[5] Punktuation Magazine brought out the easy reading nature of the publication on top of the extent of the research.[6] The book focuses on the band rather than the private lives of the members.[7] Over 20 people had been interviewed for the book.[8] Writing the book took about a year.[9] In less than a year the book had sold over a thousand copies.[10] The book is also on sale on the band's official website.[11]

Hämäläinen is a former full-time editor of Finnish tabloid Seiska. He wrote the main cover feature about the SDP MP Antti Lindtman in 2019[12]. He is a long time contributing writer for Vive Le Rock magazine where he wrote a 10 page main cover feature about Killing Joke in 2012.[13]. His first commissions in the UK were in 2006 when he interviewed the Casualties and Street Dogs for Big Cheese magazine.[14]

When he lived in London he played guitar in Defcon Zero.[15] While living there he also organised concerts under Spiderweb Promotions moniker.[16] Which according to Metal Hammer Defcon Zero never received the respect they deserved in the UK punk scene.[17] He also played in Ratbags, which contributed music to Devi Snively's feature film Trippin'.[18]

Hämäläinen played bass in Finnish hardcore punk band Sekasorto.[19] He has also worked on a documentary about the D Beat / hardcore band the Varukers.[20]

Hämäläinen contributed to the "Those 12 Bar Nights" book about the 12 Bar, which was located on Denmark Street in London.[21]
