The Cypriot First Division of the Men’s Basketball League is currently the top competition on the Cyprus Basketball calendar. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation.

Format

At present, 8 clubs compete in the league. Since 2015–16 season, the league takes place in three phases. In the first phase, each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, which makes a total of 14 games for each club.

In the second phase, the 8 teams are separated into two groups of four teams according to their position at the end of the first phase. The first four teams of the first phase will compete in the championship group, while the teams which finished in places 5-8 will compete in the relegation group. The points from the first phase are carried to the second phase and the teams play each other twice (6 more matches).

In the third phase, the third-placed team of the championship group will face the runners-up of the relegation group (tie-1) and the fourth-placed team of the championship group will face the winners of the relegation group (tie-2) in the championship quarter-finals. The winners of these two ties (winners will be decided after two wins) will advance to the championship semi-finals. At the same time, the third-placed team of the relegation group will face the fourth-placed team of the same group in the relegation play-offs, with the losing team to be relegated to the second division (winner will be decided after two wins).

In the championship semi-finals, the winners of the championship group will face the winners of the quarter-finals tie-1 and the runners-up of the championship group will face the winners of the quarter-finals tie-2. The two winners of the semi-finals (winners will be decided after three wins) will advance to the play-offs final to compete for the championship title. The championship winner will be decided after three wins and along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's EuroChallenge competition.
