C.R.A.Z.Y. is a 2005 French language film made in Quebec. It was a strong box office hit by the standards of the relatively small Quebec market, grossing over CAD$ 4 million, and was well-received by critics. It was directed and co-written by Jean-Marc Vallée. The title derives from the first letter in the names of five characters, who are brothers: Christian, Raymond, Antoine, Zachary and Yvan.

Synopsis

A young guy, Zachary (Zac), grows up in a ever changing Quebec in the years 1960-1970. The second-youngest son of a father having "more than normal-level male hormones" and raised among four other brother, Zac tries to define is own self. Different, he must deal between with his emerging sexual identity crisis and his intense desire to please his strict and temperamental father. A story based on father-son relationships, putting forward Quebec hard social context in theses years. One of the film's subtexts is the waning influence of the Catholic Church in Quebec society during the Quiet Revolution.
