Colleen R. LaRose, who also used the names Jihad Jane and Fatima LaRose, (born 1963 or 1964 (age 60–61) in Michigan) is a woman from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in the Philadelphia suburbs, who was charged on March 9, 2010, in federal court with trying to recruit Islamic terrorists to murder Swedish artist Lars Vilks.[1]

The Swedish cartoonist had depicted the prophet Muhammad atop the body of a dog.[2] An al-Qaeda-linked group had put a $100,000 bounty on his head for the cartoon, which it view as insulting to Islam.[2]

Her indictment charged that she linked up with militants outside the U.S. through the internet, and plotted to carry out a murder.[2] It said that in mid-2008, LaRose began posting her desire to help Muslims on YouTube and other Internet sites.[2] By early 2009, she was exchanging e-mail messages expressing her desire to become a martyr for an Islamist cause.[2]

LaRose is the only American woman in recent years to have been charged in the United States with terrorist violations and attempting to foment a terror conspiracy to kill someone overseas. [3]
