Viktoria Modesta

Viktoria Modesta Moskalova (born Viktoria Moskalova Modesta in Daugavpils, Latvia on 25 February 1987) is a British alternative model, singer/songwriter, and stylist.

Biography

Viktoria spent most of her childhood in hospitals following an accident at birth as a result of doctors negligence resulting in a lasting problem with her left leg [1]. Although her early interest in music lead her to studying piano, sheet music, and vocals when she was six-years-old at a music school in Daugavpils, Viktoria moved to London with her parents in 1999 to escape life under a post-USSR regime. Her involvement in London's subculture scenes began at the age of fourteen in underground clubs and continued while working as a model. [citation needed]

In 2007, she had a voluntary, below-the-knee leg amputation to improve her mobility and safeguard her future health.[2] Her physicality has become known for challenging the modern perception of altered beauty.[3]

Career

Modelling

Moskalova began modelling at the age of fifteen for alternative clothing label JDesign (now DGFH7). She has appeared on subculture magazine covers such as Bizarre[4][5] and Skin Two[6] as well as Foto magazine. She is the face of fetish/body art/burlesque club, Torture Garden, and its clothing line, for which she is also the main creative stylist. In 2008, she took Torture Garden Clothing to Zagreb for the high fashion week "Croa Porter" show,[7] where she caused controversy by mixing fetishwear with designs by designer Boudoir. In addition to styling, she began assisting with hair and makeup before, in 2007, taking over these tasks in her own shoots. Her work has appeared in Flair & Grazia.

Moskalova closed the show of Ziad Ghanem during London Fashion Week S/S 2010.[8]

Her nude portrait by James Stroud was featured in the National Portrait Gallery[9] and Kings Cross St. Pancrass Station.

She has appeared in advertising for Samsung Mobile, Channel 4 show When Women Ruled The World with presenter Steve Jones, and Opal Nera.[citation needed]

Moskalova assisted Scott Ian in presenting awards for the 2007 Kerrang Music Awards ceremony.[citation needed]

She appeared in music videos for Paloma Faith,[10] Peaches,[11] Mutia Bueno, and Satiricon[12]

Music

Moskalova picked up her musical roots in 2002 and took a one-year course for vocal technology at London Music School. In 2009, she launched a music project, a writing collaboration with musician/producer Nik Hodges. Their first track was featured in Music Week Playlist [13].

Her appearance at London Fashion Week generated a response [vague] after she performed an adapted version of her song "Satellite" live as a finale of Ghanem and Firetrap's fashion show.[citation needed]

In May 2010, Viktoria was selected as one of six best unsigned artists in the UK [14] by Evo Music Rooms [15] broadcasted on Channel 4 music programme [16].
