Etymology
[edit]Peiros & Starostin (1996) (apud Schuessler, 2007) compares this to Burmese ဖျံ (hpyam, “otter”). STEDT provisionally reconstructs Proto-Tibeto-Burman *phyam (“otter”) & compares Chinese & Burmese words to Chak [Term?] (phaing) and Marma [script needed] (phaing).
