Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ایرماق, ایرمق (ırmak), from Proto-Turkic *yïrmak. Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yırmak, stream), Azerbaijani irmaq, Chuvash ҫырма (śyrma), etc.
