[edit]Not a native Latvian suffix, -ists occurred in many borrowings and is now fully integrated. Ultimately from Ancient Greek -ιστής (-istḗs), like its English cognate -ist (see etymology of -ist).

- Added to nouns to form masculine nouns denoting members/followers of a principle, religion, philosophy, lifestyle, or system of belief (usually named by words in -isms), or who has a certain profession or activity, just like its English cognate -ism.
