[edit]From Old French siege, sege, seige, from Vulgar Latin *sedicum, from sediculum, diminutive of Latin sedem. Alternatively, derived from a lost verb Old French *siegier (cf. assegier), corresponding to a Vulgar Latin *assedicāre.
