[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese sangoento (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from Late Latin sanguinentus, from sanguis (“blood”); alternatively, sangue + -ento. Cognate with Portuguese sanguento and Spanish sangriento.
