Catalan

Etymology

[edit]

Ultimately from Latin patī. Attested in the writings of Ramon Llull.[1] Coromines tentatively proposes that it was inherited (if so, via Vulgar Latin *patīre), considering its relatively "popular" character.[2] This, however, would be at odds with the unlenited /-t-/.
