- la tigre femmina, le tigri femmine ― the female tiger, the female tigers
- When referring to masculine nouns, chiefly animals without female equivalents, the form femmina is used invariably as both the singular and plural forms.
- il gabbiano femmina, i gabbiani femmina ― the female seagull, the female seagulls
- When referring animals, some speakers may use the femmina invariably also for feminine nouns, although this is less common.
- la tigre femmina, le tigri femmina ― the female tiger, the female tigers
