CheckUser nominations
[edit]As of 31 August, 2006 the CheckUser status vote is beginning, you have been nominated and if you are so inclined please accept your nomination on the CheckUser page. Please also read the Meta Check User policy to be sure that the responsibilities are ones you would be interested in and willing to fulfill. Tentatively the end of the election will be one month from the beginning, but that is subject to change at any time, seeing as I just made that length up and a community consensus on duration will have to be established. Thank you and good luck! - TheDaveRoss 16:54, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Like, Huh!?? + OK
[edit]- re: Hello, could you please move your userpage back to the standard Uppercase version? Right now it doesn't correspond with the username. — Vildricianus 20:35, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Not sure what this means so can't comply! OTOH, should probably be redirecting whatever. Is the problem my signature (nickname)? Or the side effects of the wiki allowing non-upper case names? OK-IC now. Next time I don't have an full cut N paste buffer, I'll clear those up. FYI, it won't let me claim the account in lc (with the redirects), so the redirects will stay there. It occurs to me that it may not let me move the page ontop of the redirect either. Is there a list of admins and sysops for this sister you can drop me? Thanks.

Question regarding Import
[edit]Hello, I have a question regarding the Import function. I am trying to understand in what ways, if any, this changes the overall transwiki process. (This regards a discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Move_to_Wikisource , but there's no need for you to read up on that unless you're curious). At the moment, transwikiing an article from wikipedia to wiktionary/wikisource/wikibooks/etc does not result in that article's deletion from wikipedia, at least not immediately, it merely makes a copy of it to the new wiki and notes this on a few log files. My question is whether the Import function changes this. Does importing a page from wikipedia to wiktionary delete or alter the original wikipedia page? If you will, please respond to this here on your own talk page, as I don't have an account on wiktionary. --24.16.16.16 22:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- The answer is no: Import does not affect the original source page and makes just a copy with the complete edit history (up to 100 edits max) to another wiki. Otherwise it would be a bit risky I guess, if we were to start importing Wikipedia stuff like mad and thus remove your content. The only difference to the old system is that histories get copied properly, which makes it that bit more compliant to GFDL. The logging of moves in the import log could also prove to be an advantage. The downside is that only Wiktionary admins can use the import function. If you've got any ideas on how to improve cross-project collaboration, I'm always willing to help out (but I often lose track of w:CAT:MtW). — Vildricianus 08:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. This is good because, as you said, it would cause various potential problems if our articles were to suddenly disappear. And, transwikiing is a tedious process which results in a messy article on the receiving end, so anything to improve that is certainly good (even if only you all can do it as of now). --24.16.16.16 13:14, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Deleting .ogg files?
[edit]Be glad to help - is there a list or directory of such files that need to be deleted? bd2412 T 17:52, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/WT:RFDO#User:Davilla.2Fsamples. Too late! :-) I've done it with some trick-o-magickery so that goes pretty quickly. Thanks anyway. — Vildricianus 18:08, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ah - ok then! bd2412 T 18:27, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Index:Korean/Hanja/
[edit]Hi, how do you like accessing the above files more specifically by use of such anchors as 굴 for instance? I do not like another specific access by ===굴=== because of the very long table of contents. --KYPark 01:51, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for your visit and encouragement. Perhaps I will try soon. --KYPark 14:53, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've finished tagging "<B id=x>" around some five hundred Korean Hanja readings (syllables) in those 14 pages. To access each, I added Readings. --KYPark 07:32, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Under that, I added Words for quick reference to Hanja words. I tried the first page 가. --KYPark 11:20, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you again for your encouragement. Yeah, we have only hundreds of Korean entries which is just better than nothing. The majority of Korean vocabulary are Chinese (Hanja) loanwords, which need to be grouped in terms of "readings" in a way. I may be the first to make such an attempt. I wish myself good luck. --KYPark 13:54, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Dear Vild,
Thank you for signaling your confidence in my ability to act as a CheckUser for the English Wiktionary. Your vote means a lot to me. I deeply appreciate it.
You may not be aware, but the Meta: policy dictates that there must be multiple CheckUsers on any given project, or else none will be granted. Each must get 25 votes on their local wiki, as per Meta: policy, to be granted the CheckUser privilege.
I'd like to take a moment to endorse my friends and co-runners. Each of them offers different skills that, as a whole, complement the needs of the English Wiktionary.
- User:Uncle G has been an English Wikipedia sysop longer than he's been an English Wiktionary sysop. This year (2006) he has refocused his efforts outside of Wiktionary. He was dragged away from Wiktionary while cleaning up the tens of thousands of entries on Wikipedia that linked incorrectly to Wiktionary after the case-sensitivity change in June 2005. He knows Wiktionary very well. And he is very competent at focusing his efforts wherever they are most needed. He operated the original Transwiki: bot, before we had the Special:Import feature we have now.
- User:Kipmaster is a French Wiktionnaire sysop and bot operator who is very technically capable. He also is in Europe, making his hours of availability complementary to his American counterparts. He is active in WiktionaryZ imports and understands very well which data can be imported here, from there. He normally acts as our primary liaison to fr.wiktionary, whenever compatibility issues arise.
- User:Jon Harald Søby is a steward. As a meta: steward, he is the primary person we call on to perform CheckUser checks now. His availability is often limited, but his Central European timezone proves to be very, very useful on occasion. He has contributed extensively to Wiktionary over the years.
- User:Kelly Martin was recently called in to help perform CheckUser checks on the English Wiktionary. She is currently up for election also for the Board of Trustees of Wikimedia Foundation. (In the unlikely event she wins that election, she will no longer be available to pursue her CheckUser nomination here.) Since she also has CheckUser privilege on other sister projects, she is accustomed to the 'can's and 'cannot's of CheckUser procedures, in detail.
I hope you can take a moment to consider these fine candidates again. Your support means a great deal to them, as well as to Wiktionary's ability to perform its own CheckUser checks in a timely manner.
Thank you again, for your support.

- Someone added this category and sprinkled it with a few entries. If anyone feels up to it, it needs all the :books. Many need to be split uppercase/lowercase into two separate entries. --Connel MacKenzie T C 23:00, 20 :February 2006 (UTC)

nl-noun template
[edit]Hi Vildricianus,
I saw you are the main contributor of the nl-noun template. Since it is a bit too complex for me to start hacking it, I wanted to ask you to have a look at my question in the Information Desk, and maybe alter the template such that this gets possible.
I’m asking here since the template’s talk page is being used as documentation. (That could be used to the template’s page itself with the <noinclude> tag, btw.)
It would be nice if the use were more similar to the en-verb template, where it is possible to provide a base and only the endings, so that it is not necessary to type the whole plural and diminutive.
Cheers, henne 17:10, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Good luck!

change of Template:WikiSaurus-link to Wikisaurus
[edit]When you felt it necessary to make the change from template WikSaurus-link to Wikisaurus, why did you not also do the necessary clean up of removing all references to WikiSaurus-link.
It's counter-productive to make changes but only go half-way and leave a completely ambiguous mess behind.
what was so wrong with WikiSaurus-link that the mess that is there now is better ?--Richardb 05:00, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
PS: Hey. I like that scrollable contents window. Would be use that in long Wikisaurus pages. But how to invoke it ?--Richardb 05:03, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I've discovered an even bigger stuff up you created by what was frankly unnecessary meddling. We now have a template:WikiSaurus and a template:wikisaurus (spot the difference ?) which correspond to two different templates that I created, which were Template:wikisaurus-header, and Template:wikisaurus-link. Those names had clear meanings. Why you renamed them to two very confusingly similarly named templates, which even I can't remember which is which, is beyond me. So I guess I'll do the necessary tidying up to put it all back to being understandable. Thanks!
template:en-noun and regular possessive forms of modern English nouns
[edit]There is currently an active vote at [[1]] regarding whether regular possessive forms of modern English nouns should have their own entries or not. As part of this it has been suggested that the {{en-noun}}
template might be modified to show the possessive forms in the inflection line of modern English noun entries (irrespective of the outcome of the vote). Your comments and/or votes are welcome until the end of the vote on 5th August 2007.
