How fast is prompt? Is it one day for a hearing, two business days? One hour? — This unsigned comment was added by 71.112.76.121 (talk) at 00:23, 10 September 2006‎ 71.112.76.121.

To give my reasoning in longer form: historically, prompts have not necessarily been on monitors. Especially, prompts were also used on teletypewriter-based systems, being printed out on paper like other displayed text. I don't think the specification of “on a monitor” is needed for clarity; if someone reads ‘displayed’ in a modern context and imagines a monitor, that's harmless. “sequence of characters” may also be a bit too specific, but I think it's more central to the intended meaning (and to the way it's historically played out) compared to other UI elements that can be described as prompts in a more extended sense, so I'm leaving that one for now. --76.253.75.34 19:34, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
