Etymology

From Old Swedish aghborre, aborre, from a combination of Proto-Indo-European *h₂eḱ- (sharp, pointed) (whence also Proto-Germanic *agjō, Swedish egg) and Proto-Germanic *burzô (whence Swedish borre), which is related to Swedish borste and English burr. Cognate with Danish aborre, Norwegian Bokmål abbor, Norwegian Nynorsk åbor, Faroese áburra and Icelandic aborri.
