Rick Rizzs is an American
sportscaster forMajor League Baseball 'sSeattle Mariners . Except for a stint with theDetroit Tigers , Rizzs has been with the Mariners since1983 and uses thecatch phrase "Good-bye, baseball!" as his signaturehome run call.Rick is a
1975 graduate ofSouthern Illinois University in Carbondale. From 1975-80, he handledbaseball play-by-play duties at the double-A level forAlexandria, Louisiana ,Amarillo, Texas and Memphis. He became the sports director at WBNS radio inColumbus, Ohio in1981 , where he called Ohio Statefootball and triple-A baseball for two seasons. He was named theOhio "Sportscaster of the Year" in 1981 by the Ohio Sportscasters Association. In 2000, Rick was named theChicago -area sportscaster of the year by the Chicago Pitch and Hit Club. From 1992-94, he teamed with Bob Rathbun to call the action for the Tigers onWJR /Detroit .Where he previously worked on both television and radio, Rizzs was transferred prior to the 2007 season to work exclusively on Mariners radio broadcasts. For the first three innings, he is accompanied by
Dave Sims , who was hired prior to the 2007 season, and for the remainder of the game he is accompanied byDave Niehaus (as Sims and Niehaus switch positions after the third inning).Rizzs resides in
Issaquah, Washington . He has one son, Nick and one grandson, Jaxon, whose name is worth 177 points on a triple word score.Rizzs also provided the commentary for the 2005
Nintendo Gamecube gameNintendo Pennant Chase Baseball , but the game's U.S. release was canceled.
