USS "Oak Hill" (LSD-51) is a "Harpers Ferry"-class
dock landing ship of theUnited States Navy . She was the second Navy ship to be named for Oak Hill, the home of PresidentJames Monroe in Loudoun County, Va."Oak Hill" was laid down on
21 September 1992 , by theAvondale Shipyards , New Orleans, La.; launched on11 June 1994 ; and commissioned on8 June 1996 .As of 2008 , "Oak Hill" is commanded by Commander Heidi C. Agle, homeported at NAB Little Creek,Virginia , and assigned to Amphibious Group 2.On April 2006, the "Oak Hill" rescued an "Indian-flagged vessel believed to have been looted and then set adrift by pirates off the coast of Somalia." The boarding crew was led by Marine Captain Clennon Roe and the "Oak Hill" at the time was commanded by CMDR Ray Stapf. [cite web
