2005 ) and covers an area of 275.31 km² of which 77.02 km² is water. Thepopulation density is 109.4 inhabitants per km². The population has increased rapidly in recent years, in1990 it was slightly over 18,000.Ylöjärvi was founded as a
municipality in1869 . Starting January 1,2004 it is known as a town.The municipality of
Viljakkala will be merged to Ylöjärvi at the beginning of year2007 .
