The Effectiveness of Vocabulary Acquisition for First-year University Students by using Vocabulary.com

Abstract

This study aims to identify whether using vocabulary.com as Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is proven to be effective in terms of vocabulary acquisition and to what extent the increment of their vocabulary acquisition in a classroom setting. The study employed seventy-eight first year undergraduate students in three different majors as participants during six-weeks period. Research data were collected by distributing questionnaires and comparing pre-test with post-test and delayed-post-test. Results showed that utilizing vocabulary.com was effective in vocabulary acquisition for first-year undergraduate students. In addition, in average, it improved their vocabulary acquisition rate positively.
