A Study on Quantification of Weight Sensation by EMG

Abstract
Weight sensation should be evaluated using physical measurement which also relates to subjective evaluation. It is therefore necessary to find a new method of physical measurement. This study shows the relationship between weight sensation and electric signals (electromyogram: EMG) generated in the living body. Stevens' power law is R = kS,n where our experiments show that n = 1, if R is EMG, k is a constant, and S is the stimulation level (weight lead S ≥ 1000g). The value of constant k is dependent on the finger e.g.k = 1.6 x 10-2μV at the thumb and k = 7.4 × 10-2μV at the middle finger).
