Mario Kupries

Service-oriented computing (SOC) is a paradigm of the computing business based around services offered by companies to their customers and to each other. Examples include travel booking, meeting scheduling, data analysis, and other such applications that can be more effectively performed by components than by monolithic systems. The article details common service compositions in the listed focus areas of the SOC model. The main content of the article is represented by detailed descriptions of the different modeling languages used for SOC systems and the challenges facing this method of business. Such challenges include the need for standards in systems interfacing and service quality. Modeling languages are described and compared by their different applications and potential interoperation, including a few example scenarios and models of the interactions that take place in a typical SOC environment. The article is intended for readers with a general interest in computing. It is meant to inform computer programmers and corporate officials of the current trend of service-oriented computing and the standards available. Therefore, the authors used appropriate and well-formatted language, which can be understood by the reader. I consider the article to be effective in providing information about SOC, and in introducing concepts and terms necessary to understanding the computing model and its current stage of development.
