Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are used for most research fields like pervasive/ubiquitous computing, internet of things (IoT) and many industrial fields such as production of smart devices, sensors, and so on. WSNs consist of many counts of sensor nodes that can be deployed in a sensor field for sensing and processing information, and finally forwarding data to the destination/sink node. The energy of sensor node is supplied with a battery; hence, routing algorithms are so important for WSNs due to the energy limitation in sensor nodes. There are three routing classifications for WSNs that include flat, clustering, and geographic routing. Chain-based routing is a type of clustering routing which can design a volcanic area, measure the severity of an earthquake, and has many other applications. This article proposes a new data transmission for chain-based routing in WSN which directly sends data from the current layer or chain to the next layer using the greedy algorithm. Also, this data transmitting is done based on the remaining energy of nodes and their distance to the sink node. The new proposed method, energy aware method (EAM), is an energy-aware routing which can decrease energy consumption and increase network lifetime, and it also decreases end-to-end delay significantly. EAM can decrease the energy consumption of the network by at least 41.71% compared to other routing algorithms, and it also can increase the network lifetime by at least 58.28% in comparison to other proposed methods.
