Abstract

Despite the importance of knowledge management to library, there has been very little research in this area. The current paper intends to develop a scale of knowledge management capability for library. Initial scale items are generated from interviews and extant research. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis are conducted on a survey finished by staff from library. The final library knowledge management capability (LKMC) scale includes 4 dimensions, 14 measurement items with good reliability and validity. Meanwhile, the results of Pearson’s correlation analysis indicate that knowledge management is a critical success factor for innovation performance in China’s library settings. The proposed LKMC scale can be used as a diagnostic tool for libraries to identity areas where specific improvements are needed. Finally, this paper discusses the implications of the findings and highlights the future research directions.
