Abstract

The GPS navigator is the most popular commercialized location-awareness application of the pervasive computing research. This paper presents an extension of GPS navigator with WiFi network to provide active assistance to students or visitors for their life in the campus. To achieve this goal, this paper presents a preliminary research that fully utilizes the campus outdoor context to assist the freshman to adapt to his college life. In this paper, the adopted environmental contexts are explored first. The campus-life awareness framework is then given along with the discussion of approach to implement such system, called the CampusGenie system.
