Abstract
This paper presents how Enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) in IEEE802.11e is achieved by providing different traffic types with different priorities to access the radio channel. Treating all traffics (voice, video and data) equally without considering the individual characteristics such as delay, jitter and datadrop of each application is not appropriate. The access method in IEEE 802.11e is called Hybrid Coordination Function and combines functions from both the DCF and the PCF. The EDCF parameter set defines the priorities in medium access by setting individual interframe spaces , contention windows (CW), Arbitrary IFS and many other parameters per AC. Wireless LAN with QoS stations (QSATs) for different traffic types under different network traffic loads has been designed and simulated using OPNET. Performance metrics of QoS, like delay, throughput, datadrop, and retransmission attempt is evaluated.
